I admit to being a bit biased since I am a graduate of the Forestry School but these massive oaks are what make the Clemson campus so spectacular. Over the many years (50+) I have planted a few seedlings from these trees in my own arboretum and some have survived this mountain climate. I have made hundreds and hundreds of trips to the campus and I always check out these marvelous specimens. Call me weird but I love these big guys!

Foresttiger, Thanks for helping to spread Clemson genetics to the High Country or it's surrounds. I have a small cabin in Watauga Co. and hate leaving there to return to the Pee Dee area of SC. A cool piece of info is that the Pee Dee River has it's birth in Blowing Rock, NC, also in Watauga Co....Jaybird4

I'm not a fan of many of the different types of the Oak. But those huge massive oaks as those are, I'm a huge fan of those. That one right there is as beautiful as they come. And if they could talk out loud, just imagine the stories that old guy could tell of all the things he has saw happening within just a few square miles of a college campus. Then again, its probably better that he just stays quiet about a lot of the things he has witnessed.

I agree, with the way people are these days of wanting to destroy things just b/c of where they are. The history of that particular tree would have been better off kept right there in the boundaries of the tree. Now they will surely have to put camera's up to help protect it from people just like the Howard rock THUGS!!!

Any help identifying location is appreciated. Can't wait to get back on campus and check it out this footballs season.

Lord don't broadcast the location of that tree on T-Net. Every troll that comes here with nothing but hate for Clemson would love to know where that old guy is... When you get on campus just ask.

I surely hope so. if an idiot does happen to think that they could get away with doing something to that old tree, hopefully they get caught and have to pay dearly!!!
