Generator manual says to ground it. Amazon reviewers and Google people say it's not necessary. What say ye learned ones? FWIW, it's this:

She'a hard to impress. Seriously, if I ground it, it will be to the house service ground pole below the service meter. I'm lazy like that. Internet says that werks as long as your extension cords and everything stay separate from the house wiring.

You can ground it to the utility ground

Sep 12, 2018, 10:05 PM

At one of your boxes, but only necessary if you are running something with a metal chassis

from it or anything with the 3-prong plug, then it should be grounded...especially if the manual says it should be (has to do with it having a derived or non-derived ground at the generator).

Easiest way to ground it is to find the utility ground connection near your service entrance/meter. You can clamp on a wire to the existing ground rod/connection and run to where your generator will be. you can get a spool of stranded #8 wire pretty cheap.

If your fridge has a metal case/door and your generator is un-grounded, you're begging for a touch-potential issue (best case) or someone getting hurt if something goes wrong in the fridge (worst case).
