Actually, any fuggin' car, just help me diagnose this really dumb problem. A week ago or so, the driver side windshield wiper decided it didn't need to go all the way to the left (driver side) pillar anymore, and started coming up about 2" short. Weird, slightly annoying, but not annoying enough for me to unlazy myself enough to investigate.

Today, however...left wiper only goes about halfway up, and right wiper runs into it, mangling the wiper portion of right blade (may be salvageable, may not). And now the left wiper is only going up about 2" from resting position. Slightly mangled right wiper goes completely over the top of it.

Wiper motor issue? Seems like that component is pretty binary--it's working, or it isn't. When it isn't, neither wiper should move at all. Why'd the left wiper shit down its leg?

To optimize the discussion, I've checked the lint trap, milk is in the freezer, I have my briar pants on, I'm wearing two condoms, and War Pigs is playing at a reasonable volume in the background.

Stripped spindle where wiper attaches?***

This sounds like a reasonable assessment. Going

Feb 7, 2019, 10:40 AM

to check now, if I can figure out how to get it off.

Tighten the nut holding the wiper arm on to the wiper motor

linkage. Its under a little plastic cap on end the wiper arm.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sounds like the diesel wiper capcitor

Feb 7, 2019, 10:38 AM

is on the fritz....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is tough, you may need a 3rd condom and to turn warpigs

Feb 7, 2019, 10:39 AM

off and put Hootie's version of Wagon Wheel on.

Thats all I got though.

Mama rocked me.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the (bolts? at the) arms prob just need to be tightened

Feb 7, 2019, 10:40 AM

that happened to me a month or 2 ago, except it was just one (does seem odd that it'd happen to bofe), except it OVER extended, and went past the windshield pillar by about 4", making a floppy slappy noise.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think it's just the driver's side that is zarfed.

Feb 7, 2019, 10:41 AM

Passenger side seems to be working.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it was a quick fix. Just bring a wrench

Feb 7, 2019, 10:42 AM

and that 3rd condom that Greenr mentioned...in case aero shows up

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

gonna take him out back and shoot him

ITB?

See, today is proof that the Jounge isn't a 100% waste of

time. At best, it's 97-98% wasteful, with useful tidbits sprinkled in a few times a week. Examined bolt, determined it was 17mm (because awesome Japanese engineering), NAILED the 17mm, bolt was loose so it got itself tightened, wiper works.

It's still coming up a few inches short of it's previous arc, not sure why, but as aforementioned, this isn't enough to make me spend time on it. Unless you have another razor sharp diagnosis and fix.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yep, i do, actually

Feb 7, 2019, 10:54 AM

adjust it a few inches, most likely in the direction it's short.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

we're back to 100% useless now, aren't we?***

Feb 7, 2019, 10:55 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I considered this, but if the wiper is already hitting

Feb 7, 2019, 10:57 AM [ in reply to yep, i do, actually ]

bottom (huh huh) in it's current position, if I adjust it up, wouldn't that make it's resting position higher than it should be, i.e., in my field of vision when not in use? Seems the arc length shortened.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i'd still try it, there's a possibility that the wiper is

Feb 7, 2019, 11:02 AM

hitting bottom sooner that it'd want to (i deal with this weakly), and is just being prevented from going all the way

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

1)Unbolt the wiper arm

Feb 7, 2019, 11:06 AM

2)turn on the wipers and let them run a cycle or 2, then turn them off so they go back to their "park" position.

3) re-attach wiper wiper to where it should sit when parked. tighten chit out of nut holding it to wipe linkage.

4) You're done. There is no #4.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm gonna just put this out there...

Feb 7, 2019, 11:08 AM

Step #4 is kinda confusing

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was a test***

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Feb 7, 2019, 10:45 AM

You should.

I did that once

A coworker had the exact same issue in his Pilot.

Feb 7, 2019, 10:47 AM

Pretty easy solution...he just doesn't drive anywhere when it rains.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Time to burn it to the ground and collect insurance

Feb 7, 2019, 10:52 AM

Or drive like this...

Sounds like to me the #### things are trying

Feb 7, 2019, 10:53 AM

to wipe while standing up

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

windshield wiper probs reminds me of my severe UDP days

Feb 7, 2019, 11:09 AM

when I first got out of school, like many of us, had absolutely no money. My old beater Toyota had about 1000 issues, one of them was the wiper motor crapped out.

So I drove it for about 3 months using applications of Rain-X. Worked pretty dang good actually.
Finally made it to a junkyard one weekend and nabbed a wiper motor out of a wreck for like $3 and fixed it.

(on another extreme-UDP car topic, I drove the thing without a clutch for about a month. Parked on hills so I could roll-start it, then I straight-shifted it on the road. The things you have to do.....)

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A lot of y'all seem to have problems with your Pilots

Feb 7, 2019, 11:25 AM

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Have you been able to put those condoms to use

Feb 7, 2019, 9:37 PM

& solve this perplexity?

If not, maybe try unplugging it & then plugging it back in. Or put your penís in the tailpipe & give that a try?
