So what are some lessons learned during this

Once we can look back on this pandemic, what are some lessons we as Americans should learn?
I'll throw #1 in.
Affordable healthcare can not be tied to employment.

The American system is flawed. The American worker is vulnerable.

I think most of the “BAU” responses, such as yours, are a mistake.

We certainly can learn a lot about how to deal with a pandemic that happens every 102 years, but we shouldn’t set up BAU to account for it.

-Service industry workers, healthcare workers, grocery, truck drivers, port workers, and other essential workers deserve a lot more respect. -Stop tying things that aren't political to political ideology. There is nothing liberal or conservative/Dem or Pub about this virus or how to handle it. It's just competent vs. incompetent, and if you think the letter by the person's name determines how well they handled this pandemic, you're part of the problem. -A lot more meetings could be emails. -Politicians need to be held more accountable for preparedness, acting on time, and being severely punished if they profit from such tragedies (the stock dumpers). -We need better financial management education in America. Too many Americans were not prepared for an overnight crisis that hit them hard in the wallet. -I need more alcohol reserves in a time of crisis.

spend money (or save it) to prepare for something that may never happen. Same goes for Joe SixPack...he's going to buy that Netflix upgrade and pay someone to bring him his food rather than stash that money "just in case".
I don't know how to stop that mentality in either case...

We saw people didn't learn good lessons from the housing crash, either. Once the money starts coming back in, the poor decisions occur again. I don't know how to stop the mentality, either, except maybe hammer it into the minds of kids in school.
My wife and I went through a pretty rough bout during the housing crash. I'm not going to say we were 100 percent smart once things got better, but we did work more toward having a good reserve fund, and that's bringing us comfort now if either of us lose our jobs.

A closet full of toilet paper is just as important as a cupboard full of food.
