Purnell quit on Clemson. And now he's totally out of coaching altogether.

Excuse me, but what did Ollie really accomplish at Clemson?
Jan 4, 2017, 8:43 PM
|
|
He won some games, not much more in the ACC if any more than Brownell, but I'm positive he never won a tournament game. Brad's won about as many or more ACC games, and he won a tournament game. Plus he should have been in at least one if not more. It's obviously taking him some time to repair the recruiting disaster that your boy Ollie left us in. Are these the truths you speak of?
Instead of being such a petty dickhed, maybe you could hold out on your public criticism until all the results are in? We may very well make some waves this year.

Nah I'm done arguing with anyone that actually wants to compare Brownell's resume to Purnell's.
If I want to laugh at delusional people I go to a coot board and listen to them try and make themselves believe Muschamp was a good hire.
I have nothing against Brownell and I'm pulling for him as much as anybody. He's a good basketball coach but he can't recruit the type of players at Clemson he needs to be successful on a consistent basis. Purnell with his fast paced style was able to attract better athletes that gave us an edge.
Every 4 or 5 years we'll have a decent team and we'll make a run at the tournament....Brownell said that's how it was going to be himself.

Once Purnell's program was established we competed very well in the ACC. We had a winning record each of the last 3 seasons in conference.
Saying that he beat up on weak OOC competition in order to make the tournament is just a flat out lie.
Those that say his style wasn't fit for tournament play need to look at our run to the ACC tournament championship game. The NCAA wins would have come.

And I'm starting to think jhop is the reason OP left in the middle of the night. Anyone who has their panties in that tight of a wad, well, it's obviously caused a lot of chafing.

The only reason I talk about Purnell so much is to show these idiots that act like we shouldn't expect a good basketball program that it can be done.

People thought he did do a good job and then he left. You have been beating a dead horse for a while now though and refuse to get on board with the current program that has seen its own share of success and has upgraded with players each year and next recruiting class is best yet.

1. It was not a Good basketball program. OP played cupcakes to load up in "preseason" then crumble when hit the ACC. 2. OPs athletes, not basketball players, were fest or famine. When teams broke the press then there was nothing for OP to fall back on. See his abysmal record of no ncaa wins. 3. He did have players who stayed for 4 years which Coach BB has not had many of those. 4. OP also played in ACC when it was down. He was to ACC as Spurrieridiot was to SEC East. They made some noise occasionally but never really won anything. 5.

1. Completely false. 10-6, 9-7, 9-7 in ACC his last 3 years. The 2 before that we were 7-9. His first 2 seasons we struggled and rightfully so....the program was in shambles.
2. I'd rather get to the tourney than not at all. Free throw shooting cost us those games....ironically we still struggle at the line.
3. Brownell has had one player leave early.
4. This was debunked in another thread. The ACC has added some good programs since OP left but it's always been a great conference. The UNC team we almost beat for the ACC championship had the most regular season wins ever for their program and made the final four that year.

A tad better....
Zero tournament appearances yet for Martin.
Brownell lost his first year to Darrin Horne in LJ breaking a six game winning streak.

Spurrier lost to Dabo before he was even the full time hire.

Cool that Dabo bookended Spurrier by winning their last meeting also. Lost a few in between, but winning the first one, and winning the last - not bad.
And did you see that there's cold front coming in this weekend? Maybe ice? That's something.

I apologize for living in reality.
I've said multiple times I support Brownell and this team, always have.
But that doesn't mean I'm going to be delusional about where we are now vs. where we were when he took over.
