Screen Grab from 4th & 16. See how wide open Humphries was..

Jan 22, 2013, 1:18 PM

On any other play in the game I think Tahj would have seen the check down to Humphries.

Looks like Boyd almost cost 'em the game.

By missing a wide open receiver.

LSU knew where it was going, and still couldn't stop it

What a game!

Re: Screen Grab from 4th & 16. See how wide open Humphries was..

Jan 22, 2013, 1:36 PM

Very cool screen shot. It is cool to see time stopped just before the world (at least mine!) changed for the better!

I wonder what the next three screen shots would have looked like if it went to Humphries. I am thinking those two LSU defenders btwn the 30 and 35 would have been making their way pretty quickly to Humphries had the ball gone to him.

A QB has to see what IS happening on the field as well as what is GOING to happen on the field. It would be interesting to know what was going on in Tajh's mind. Did he pass it to Nuk based on that coverage, based on how the play developed or did he pass it to Nuk becuase it was Nuk?

As Yoda might say... “To questions not ours. To enjoy is.”

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not sure what the point of this is, but I've heard it

Jan 22, 2013, 1:47 PM

multiple times now. If you actually watch the play develop, Humphries was not really open until AFTER Tajh begins his throwing motion. There was a deep safety playing directly between the two hashes. He starts off around the 30 yard line and back pedals to about the 35. He would've been 5 or so yards away from Humphries and almost certainly able to make a play on the ball had Boyd thrown it there.

However, when Tajh throws the ball, the safety breaks towards the play vacating the middle of the field and leaving the impression that Humphries was wide open.

This isn't the best video, but it was the first one i found. You can still basically see it happen here.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Safety is there, but Humphries is still wide open.

Jan 22, 2013, 1:51 PM

Wouldn't have been a touchdown, but it would have been an easy throw for a 1st. As someone said below, it may have been difficult for Boyd to see because of the pressure from that side.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just like 2000

Jan 22, 2013, 1:53 PM

Woody went to Rod, of course, but Joe Don Reemes was wide open on the play. Can't blame the QB for going to the money guy in either case, though. Worked out both times!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think that's somewhat open to interpretation. The safety

Jan 22, 2013, 1:59 PM [ in reply to Safety is there, but Humphries is still wide open. ]

is likely following Boyd's eyes, and he never even turns his head far enough to see Humphries. Had he done so, the safety breaks that direction and potentially makes a play on the ball.

At any rate, i just want to enjoy a great play that Tiger fans will remember for a long time. I don't see the point in arguing that the ball should've gone to Humphries.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

For the record, my first post was sarcastic.

Jan 22, 2013, 2:05 PM

In case anyone couldn't tell.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I could tell, but more than a few Tiger fans see to be

Jan 22, 2013, 2:44 PM

serious about this for some reason.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The safety is waiting on it and Humphris is NOT open.

Jan 22, 2013, 2:46 PM [ in reply to Safety is there, but Humphries is still wide open. ]

Simple read for a quarterback. Look left to hold the safety and turn and fire to Nuk.

He had a "window" between the H and j - of course he was looking in a mirror.

And thank goodness that "Hot Rod" took out rushing DL of Lsu

Jan 22, 2013, 2:29 PM

so Tajh could get pass off & out of pocket for 1st!!!

Can't wait to see "HR" run with the ball this year as #1 RB.

are crazy sensitive and get your panties up in a bunch for no reason.

I was curious to rewatch the play where everyone kept saying that Humphries was wide open on the left side of the field. So I did a screen grab and shared it with you bozo's.

Do I care how wide open Humphries was? He!! no! Nuk made the catch and we won the game. Now you guys can go back to stressing out about something else.

thrown said pass to Humphries where he would have clearly scored; well, we would have scored WAY too early and would have wound up losing the game!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's part of Tajh's progression

Jan 22, 2013, 2:39 PM

Humphries would have defiantly been the 3rd read, but if you read the interview with Nuk on the the front page he said that it was either going to be him or Ford, chances are Nuk was the first read, if not defiantly the 2nd. We got just enough blocking and Tajh made the throw he knew he could make.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

I thought the same thing when I saw a replay of this...

Jan 22, 2013, 2:46 PM

It's funny, a lot of the same guys praising this throw and catch would have #### a brick had the pass been defended or Nuk dropped it. They probably would have been wondering why Humphries didn't get the rock.

In the end, I would credit Nuk for making an incredible catch...I'm not sold that this was a great throw or even a great decision from Tajh. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy, estatic even, with the result...but I would have Tajh use this as a learning tool. That was a risky throw and poorly defended by the LSU defender...

Thass the 1st down line not the 4th down line

Re: Screen Grab from 4th & 16. See how wide open Humphries was..

Jan 22, 2013, 3:06 PM

Humphries is wide open because the ball is halfway to Nuk, the guy covering White Chocolate probably broke toward where the ball was thrown so it looks like he's more open. Nuk said in an interview it was either going to him or Ford, Humphries was probably the 3rd or 4th option at on that play.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nuk is open regardless of how well he is covered...ALWAYS!***

Re: 4th and 16

Jan 22, 2013, 3:20 PM

4th and 16 is not to analyzed, questioned or thought through... 4th and 16 is to be immortalized.

That is all

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My takeaway: Humphries can get open against LSU's

Jan 22, 2013, 6:02 PM

legendary defense as well. Man, we are in good shape for next year.

Or, conversely, at that stage LSU's legendary defense couldn't have covered me if I suited up in orange.
