He basically rebuilt the Alabama ground-pound teams of a decade ago into a passing attack to try and match/catch Clemson. That first Clemson-Bama NC game scared the bejesus out of him. No more sincere form of flattery than imitation. Smart move, Nikky. We'll teach you a few more lessons in a week or so.

It goes through cycles and it was time. Saban grew up like Ford. Beat everybody by holding the ball and getting four yards in a cloud of dust. Back then three things happened when you threw the ball and two of them weren't good.

He hired Kiffen to help with the change and he finally got a scrambling QB with a good arm in Tua. He hasn't forgotten that stopping the run is the first priority of a defense though.
