SC Officials don't know if Lattimore has NCAA disability ins

Oct 30, 2012, 2:38 PM

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaaf--marcus-lattimore-s-injury-shows-why-a-four-team-college-football-playoff-is-enough.html

Wouldn't they be able to make a phone call to NCAA to determine if he has the ins?

what would be sad if USC did not advise him....is that ANY junior eligible(for NFL) or senior...should have been "advised" as to this insurance being available....the NCAA does provide this policy through Lloyd's of London.

BUT if he takes the policy...HE CAN NOT play again....that is the trade off.

I sure did not know that. This should be made known to all college football players.

It only applies to those eligible for the next NFL draft (typically juniors and seniors) that are projected to go in the top 3 rounds of the NFL draft (first round for NBA, other sports).

actually any senior or junior eligible can take the policy out.....the projection of 1, 2, 3 rounds is ..yes..for a junior...but as in Latt's case...he would not be "projected" until the season is completed......

so the players and their family's can take the policy out....but the paperwork has to be submitted...as with any insurance....and it is the responsibility of the player....

and as stated earlier.....if you take the money compensation....for injury....one can not play again.

Why didn't they ask the booster that has been paying the premium all these years? I'm sure he would have told how much coverage he has.

I think Loyd's of London is foolish to insure any athlete that plays for Spurrier. He demonstrates little long term care for any of his players. It is always a "what have you done for me lately" attitude. We said all along you can't rush a player 30 times a game and expect them not to wear down. It was just a matter of time before Lattimore suffered another major injury. Look at what he did with Shaw earlier this year. Shot him up with pain killers and sent him right back in.

Parents: Don't let your son play for Spurrier!!!

He had this policy but chose not to take the money and made a nice comeback to a solid NFL career.

Gamecock guy on radio this AM said Lattimore had it

Oct 30, 2012, 3:01 PM

since he was a Freshman, was the youngest ever cleared by the NCAA to have it.

Tony Morrell(?) from Gamecock Central, on Mickeys Show about 8am this morning.

well that is awesome...he has some decisions to make then....

he could take the money now...and just chose to recover...and never play again.....

if he chooses to attempt to play again....after his recovery is complete....he chooses "no money".....and due to the serious nature of this injury...it is doubtful that he would be "re-insured"

lots to think about for this young man.

Unfortunently for players, it isn't lost revenue insurance

Oct 30, 2012, 3:39 PM

if he ever gets money from an NFL team, he can't collect on the insurance policy.
