The dirty side of college football:

We saw it from Ohio State, and will undoubtably see it from LSU. Headhunting, bounty type hits, and flat out "don't care" personal fouls trying to take out our guys without any regard for the penalty. What will Pac 12 officials do about this? Probably nothing. We will once again be on our own. Our only defense will be for our guys to DELIVER the hit instead of just taking it. But, you can only do so much of that before you get to diminishing returns. Make no mistake, to win this game, we will have to be the toughest bunch of Tigers we have ever been. These Ogre guys are not like Bama, who expects to be there ever year. They know this is pretty much their one clear shot, and they will go down fighting dirty. But, they WILL go down. We are Clemson. And we are here to stay.

The attempted decapitation of Lawrence was definitely planned.

I didn't think it was intentional. It happened right in front of us. Okudah had his back to Higgins, and when he went up for the ball, his hand went under the face mask and pushed the helmet off. It didn't look intentional, but it WAS a personal foul... that wasn't called.
The hit on TL16 should have drawn two fouls... the targeting on Wade and a personal foul on Chase Young for trying to twist his head off.

DBs hand pushed on the bottom of his face mask. It didn’t seem like he had bad intentions IMO
I accidentally knocked lots of helmets off in my playing days. Back then helmet to helmet contact was the norm.

I think Tee's injury came from DB that threw forearm and

elbow across his helmet not from the one that was pushing on facemask. Go watch replay of the safety coming over to help. I cant see where else it would have occurred because the other DB didn't fall on his head like previously thought.

for dayum sure is no ambiguity around Young putting TL's helmet in a WWE headlock and trying to tear his head off, AFTER HE HAD ALREADY BEEN TARGETED ON THE PLAY, AND WAS ON THE GROUND.
Sorry for going all deroberts there, but trying to make a loud point.

I am going to remind y'all of Ben Boulware and Christian Wilkins. Those boys played hard and rough - that's football. If you don't like it play futbol.

I remember a lot of people here being pissed off when Boulware got the personal foul penalty for suplexing a kid. I don't see how that's any different. As you said, football is a rough, physical sport.

The guy wouldn’t quit. Ben has him wrapped up, and he kept driving his legs. If he had not lifted him up, there is always a chance that he broke free. Once lifted, he fell backward (on purpose) so as not to give up a single additional inch.

A coworker of mine told me Boulware was a thug when he put Lavar Jackson in the choke hold and wouldn't let go. In Ben's defense, I told my coworker Ben didn't let go because Lavar was still moving.

5 plays before the 3rd down targeting, TL ran to the left and was subjected to a hard “lead with the helmet” cheap shot by OSU safety #4, Jordan Fuller. TL even talked to the refs after the dirty hit - don’t recall that “talk” mentioned on ESPN but the OSU radio announcers noted it at the 1:39 mark of their video. See the attachment & listen to the OSU radio & what do you think?
“Target me once, shame on me. Target me twice and I’ll get POd and run a 67yd TD on your ###!”

...to win that game after that hit, only God could have willed and given TL16 the strength to pull off that run 2 plays later.
If you make it to the Pearly Gates, take the time to ask if what I'm telling you is true.

2016 Bama looked like they were headhunting. That kid from South Carolina was pretty clearly trying to hurt TL in the 3rd quarter this year. Ohio State just looked like they were playing physical football. I didn't see any dirty hits. If you think the fluke play that injured Tee was planned or intentional.. I just don't know what to tell you. How do you plan and coordinate something like that? You can't.

I would argue this is a big reason OSU lost the game. Yes, Day has been preaching this all out, hard hitting mindset, but in a close game it can cost you. OSU was all emotion early and as you get tired you start to make mistakes. Clemson is disciplined and showed they have been there before. When the 4th quarter arrived one team was searching for answers and the other was going about business as usual.

Saw it for several years in a row from Alabama too. The philosophy seems to be "if you can't beat 'em, hurt 'em.". It's disgusting. I understand wanting to make an opponent fear the next hit, but not at the risk of being seriously injured.

A legit approach to football is to hit as hard as you can w/o hitting dirty or drawing a penalty. Hit 'em hard and often, make them quit, but don't draw a penalty and don't try to injure someone.
Sometimes players go too far w/ this.
And yes, some teams play dirty too. LSU has no history of doing this, but LSU will hit hard and often just as will Clem.

Hard hits are perfectly legitimate. However opponents have consistently, and mistakenly, thought they could intimidate Clemson with a constant slew of dirty hits in an attempt to injure our players. See: Deshaun Watson helicoptering through the air in the 2016 championship game.
And while there are isolated cases by individuals on almost every team almost every year, it's become commonplace for *the entire team* to play dirty against Clemson in an effort to slow us down. Bama, Ohio State, NC State, SCar among others have all done it in the last 5 years. Not saying LSU will, but it wouldn't come as a complete shock either.

My sister very seldom watches football. Her first comment was OS was playing dirty. I think that would verify their playing.

Not being funny but Pac 12 officials may not be use to seeing that much speed all over the field and officiating may suffer.

The targeting call was border line, but the Chase clothes line and roll wa more grievous and should have been called also.
