and from '65 through the '68 seasons, they maintained roughly a 50% win/loss ratio. We split wins with them those years.
Most of the SC students and fans I knew in those days believed most of their gridiron troubles were due to their location in Columbia along with constant meddling and interfering by politicians in S.C. affairs. The history of their program up to that time didn't help either.
Honestly, in those days, as you might recall, most Clemson students and fans were interested in only one thing each season: OUR game with them...and we really didn't care whom they played nor their record against other opponents. Likewise, they felt the same toward us.

Not too much. Until spurrier got there they never were much of a factor. I think they had played in the Peach Bowl back in the early 70's or something. Pretty dismal football history, really. I think one of the only (maybe the only) "major" college football programs with a losing overall record until after spurlid was there for several years. spurlid has helped them, but their association with a good conference has pulled them along too.

The SC/Clemson record during the ACC years was 9-10. SC has beaten Clemson 5 times in years when Clemson won the ACC title. The last time was 2011.
