We are 2016 National Champions because we won the 2017 College Football Playoff. The 2017 logo is the CFP logo.

Our Championship Banners are 1981 and 2016.
1982 Orange Bowl and 2017 National Championship Game, both Championship Games were played at the first of the year following the '81 and 2016 seasons. Those games are correct in date but the season is tied to the previous year.
1981 and 2016 season champions.

Clemson fans in Clemson (and Tampa) saw the game end on Jan 10th (12:30am EST)
Bama fans in Tuscaloosa saw the game end on Jan 9th (11:30pm CST)

Ask someone when the championship game was played and they'll say January 9th, even though the game went into the 10th.
