Jarren Williams leaving Miami - enters transfer portal

Not that this is any surprise with King transferring in from Houston.
The bigger story to me will be the excuse Williams' lawyer comes up with to allow him an immediate eligibility waiver. The NCAA has turned the portal into a joke - by allowing all these previous lame and contrived excuses (looking at you Justin Fields) to have immediate eligibility upon transfer, makes me wonder why the NCAA bothers with the waiver process at all. The truth is out there for all to see on 99% of these transfers - they kid wants to be a starter and he ain't gonna be at his current school.
Anyway - here's the ESPN story: https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/28549413/qb-jarren-williams-tells-miami-enter-transfer-portal

The problem is, the NCAA doesn't have the stones...

to enforce their own rules.
If a player transfers from one FBS program to another, without first earning a degree, there should be a hard-and-fast rule that player must sit for one year before being eligible to play. No waivers, no appeals, no workarounds. The rule applies to everyone fairly and consistently.
Players hiring lawyers to file appeals on some bu!!$#17 basis because the NCAA doesn't want to spend the time or money to fight is...well...just plain bu!!$#17.
One rule that applies fairly and consistently to EVERYONE solves the problem. Everyone knows the rule. You want to transfer...go right ahead, but if you transfer without a degree, you sit for a year PERIOD END PF STORY !!!!

It's not about the stones, it's about the money.
Every big name QB has been deemed immediately eligible.
However, some no name kid tried to appeal to transfer to VA Tech last year based on being closer to his mom who had a brain tumor and the NCAA denied his request based on: VA Tech was outside the radius that is counted as "close to home" by less than 20 miles and because his mom continued working after being diagnosed to try to help the family with medical bills. The NCAA stated that if the condition were serious enough she would have stopped working.
It's 100% about only applying the rules when there is no benefit to the NCAA to break them.
If a player being on the field has the chance to add a star to college football then he will be made eligible no matter what his excuse may be.

The video of baseball player Adam Sasser yelling racial

epithets at a football game was pretty informative of the environment there in Athens. Interesting that it was a member of the baseball team yelling like that. What does that say about the rest of the team?
Why did he feel comfortable shouting those things in public?

There are people like that, unfortunately, everywhere. If we are going to let every word uttered by anyone become a means for creating exceptions, then there's no need for the process at all.

Miami is better off. Williams didn't go to class, missed workouts, and sometimes didn't bother to show up for practices, he was not liked by teammates. I will be surprised to see a Power 5 school take a chance on him when you can recruit a player with as much talent but better attitude and work ethic.

That description indicates the type of baggage every team would avoid. If that is true, he will have few, if any, options.
