So how long before AI takes over playcalling

I mean, why stand there studying a color coded card. Computer has all the plays ever run by the offense, all the plays ever run by the defense, all the scenarios, all the percentages of success and all other possible metrics, and the play is called. Aren't they pretty much doing this in baseball now, studying every player's metrics and tendencies and doing shifts and changing pitchers in key situations?
The idea came with the PJ/Tec discussion and the fact it's Ga "Tec". Why do they need a coach to call all those plays? Tec could probably run the offense on AI.

The program would have to be set up to break tendencies. Otherwise the opposing computer would know exactly what was being run.

I am sure some machine learning statistical tools are already being used in the NFL, and possibly at the college level too. There is no limitation on computer use in the booth, right? Earlier this year we went for an odd fake FG in a game, and I got to googling and ML nerds had run some studies to show it was statistically better than just going for it on 4th & whatever. At the very least the play callers have access to this kind of info.

Some times I feel that Tony has the first ever version of Al, and uses it to set up his game plan

Here’s one of the problems I have with those type of statistics: until you start going for it or faking a field goal an equal number of times, the success of outcome % is skewed. You can’t evaluate one option over the other unless they are compared equally.

obvious he wasn't calling plays based on the "gut feeling" of the game, just a ###### written down on a a clipboard.
Just ask Reggie Merriweather.
The elite generals and coaches use their "sixth sense" to win games. Not just statistics. A pre-programmed machine will never be able to do that.

Just had a image pop into my head of Nick Saban talking to a computer locked away in a dark closet somewhere directing him what play to call.

There was an article on Fox New about an AI device on ISS

It was doing what it was supposed to, then something made it moody and it wouldn't listen to commands. Then it started being sarcastic and rude.
I'm not sure AI is a good thing.

Well if we done that and it actually worked, the wins would be so big that it would help prove that the ACC is just a two team conference when FSU gets back to their norm, and they will, it's just a matter of time and the right hiring of a HC for FSU!!!

Would the AI have you attempt a fake punt on 4th and 11 at the 50 when the opposing teams first team defense stays on the field in a tie game?
