So I finished Maniac on Netflix yesterday

Kind of a weird show. Could easily be one long episode of Black Mirror. It's visually nice and the acting is good, but I"m not sure what to think about the whole storyline.

I thought it was great. The director is the same guy who did season 1 of True Detective, very heady.

Jonah Hill as Snorri was epic

and the tone shifts between pretty absurd elements and serious emotional issues could have been a disaster but I thought they pulled it off amazingly well. The mix of 80s technology with elements of futurist sci-fi was a fun way to implement a bit of nostalgia into the show and gave a cool feeling to the world at the same time (favorite bit was that the computer was made from old Atari cartridges).

Agree with you about the visuals and acting, but I expected that as Cary Fukunaga is a great director, and Emma Stone and Jonah Hill are both solid and charismatic actors.

Maniac is what I want more of from Netflix (next up: "The Haunting of Hill House" which is supposed to be great)
