Living in Rock Hill went to little house on the backwater

Big mistake. Huddled under a bar as the winds whipped 100mph+. Knew I was going to die, and I was almost 200mi from the coast. Never saw anything like it.

I was still at Clemson, but from the Charleston

area. I vividly remember staying up pretty much all night waiting to hear from my family. I didn't / couldn't get home for two weeks....that's two weeks of cleanup....and I still didn't recognize the place. It looked like a war zone.

happened 6 days before my 5th bday!

Scariest thing ever in my life time in SC. We went down with a church group to help with clean up. There were even trees down in Greenville and parts of Charlotte were without power for 2 weeks, 200+ miles from the coast.
6.7 billion board feet of lumber lost from the 100,000s of trees down
Those of us around will never forget it.

I still have trees down on my property. I never interfere with mother nature.

I slept through it in Florence

But it knocked down a bunch of trees all over town.

We didn't have school for about a week.

Went down to Charleston on Saturday after to deliver supplies in a State van. Thought it was one of the ugliest things I have ever seen. Tractor trailers turned over in North Charleston. Trees twisted around then pulled with entire root systems by the Cid. Boats in the middle of Ashley Ave. Houses with missing walls on the Batt'ry. I thought it was one of the ugliest things I have ever seen, but I was wrong. The following Monday I went to McClellanville doing the same thing. That looked like a war zone in Germany from WWII. Nothing was left undamaged or destroyed. I don't get emotional but I almost cried looking at those people. Not a fond memory.

I was in Clemson

but my family was in Sumter. Next morning a group of us were in the old Johnstone and watching NBC reports of it. There was a group of about 6 in there, most from Sumter. Tom Brokaw came on and said "We're receiving our first reports of damage inland from Shaw AFB who is reporting that they had winds in excess of 140 mph there."

I've never seen a room empty so fast. Everyone was trying to get their families on the phones.
