Rooms near New Orleans

Dec 4, 2017, 10:23 PM

For those of you looking for rooms NEAR New Orleans and don't want to spend more than $300 a night, try Slidell. It's about a 30 minute drive just over the Pontchartrain. Many rooms can be had in the $100 a night range in decent hotels. Try Tripadvisor.com. It's funny. I was in NOLA about 3 weeks ago and stayed at Four Points Sheraton at Bourbon and Toulouse. It was $119 a night. The rate during the Sugar Bowl is $512. I know it's also New Years, but dang that's high.

Biloxi, MS is also an alternative for gamblers.

On a smooth driving day, it's only 90 minutes away. The casino hotels are still expensive; $300-$400 a night, but the 3-4 star hotels are $80-$140 a night.

Whatever you do , don't stay at St. Vincent's guest house in New Orleans . It's totally haunted by ghost children and they hide things you need ...like parking vouchers and your toothbrush .
Little scamps . The place was an orphanage ( mostly for children left alone during yellow fever outbreaks ) . There isn't another place I have ever been that made the hair stand up on the back of my neck like St. Vincent's . Stayed there in room 17 back in 1997 , and will always remember those 4 restless nights .

I believe they are still a functioning hotel .
It's surreal , the main staircase up to second level was lined with old photographs of groups of the orphans sitting on that same staircase .

I watched the sun come up from the roof of that place

with a bottle of tequila and some people I just met the night before. It was Mardi Gras '99 and I was not sober enough to see any ghosts.

Although now that you mention it I did lose my toiletry bag... but I just chalked that up to drunken debauchery.

The road goes on forever and the party never ends...

Look up the best Western Copeland tower. It's nice.

There is a Hampton inn on st Charles in the garden district, the ponchtrain hotel as well, both nice in good areas of NOLA, airport has tons of hotels but if you are going to travel all the way to New Orleans I wouldn’t stay by the airport unless you are that cheap. Also, vrbo and Airbnb are good in the quarter.
