Reading about Logan’s aspirations

To become an actor reminded me of a similar situation quite a few years ago. Perhaps some of you ‘aged’ tnetters will remember this happening. I’m guessing in the early 80’s that NCSU had a BIG defensive lineman who had the persona, but not the talent nor charisma, of our Mr Wilkins, who decided after his football playing was over in Raleigh that he would go to Hollywood and become an actor. At the time I thought that this was ridiculously funny because this guy was no Paul Newman. Maybe a Fred Sanford! Nevertheless he ended up in Hollywood and very shortly after being there he got a movie role as a bouncer, bodyguard type of person. He actually appeared in a respectable movie. That was the last I heard of him! If this dude can make it in glitter city, Logan’s got a real good shot.
Anyone old enough to remember this?

By any chance did he star in Breaking Bad as Saul Goodman's heavy?

I honestly do not know the answer to that. I’ll ask my son who is an ex wolfie. Perhaps he will remember. If he doesn’t I’ll try to remember to ask Zack G. He would know but we don’t see him as often as we would like. He is certainly one who has MADE it!!!

Burt Reynolds (FSU) and Dean Cain (Princeton 80's) two other football player turned actors I can think of.

Mark Harmon played QB at UCLA. Ed Marinaro (Columbia, I believe) was in a lot of things, but might be best known for “Hill Street Blues”. That was a popular cop show in the ‘80s

I think John Wayne played FB at USC.
I’m also old enough to remember when OJ was a very popular actor

That was Alex Karras in Webster.
If we’re talking guys who played in the NFL and then went into acting:
Carl Weathers Jim Brown Duck Butkus Fran Tarkenton hosted a show called “That’s Incredible” in the 80’s

You can start with John Heisman
Jan 31, 2020, 7:56 PM
|
|
He founded drama clubs at several colleges where he coached including Clemson although most of his performances were in Asheville, NC during the summer while he was here. He performed everything from Shakespeare to whatever popular contemporary work was available.

Burt Reynolds (FSU WR) AKA "The Bandit" and other movies. "Hustle" with Catherine Deneuve - I would say he made it.

I don’t recall a football player from State going into acting but I do remember a huge heavyweight wrestler from there named Tab Thacker. He was about 450 lbs. he won 4 ACC championships and only lost a handful of matches one of which was at Clemson to our heavyweight who was about half his weight. Incredibly exciting match.
Thacker went to Hollywood and was in several movies including some of the Police Academy sequels. He died at age 45 in 2007 from complications from Diabetes.

I think that you are correct. The thought of him maybe being a wrestler occurred to me. Thacker sounds like the guy. Thanks

Haven't read the story about Logan wanting to be an actor

but best of luck to him in whatever he decides to do/pursue.
There is a lot of luck involved when it comes to making that acting gig your main source of income. Young, talented, "pretty" faces hanging around the Hollywood and the New York acting scene are a penny a dozen - just making it to the point where acting will pay the monthly bills in that crowded field of folks is a low probability proposition. I'm just glad Logan will have a Clemson degree to fall back on in case this whole acting thing doesn't work out.

Swofford- played some football and has been "acting" as an impartial commissioner for years. Now its pretty weak acting but acting none the less
