Then back-fill the rest with at large teams if there aren't 4 ranked in the top six.

It's a wash. 2016 would have been "right" and this year "wrong". Like it or not, they got the 4 best teams. If you're being honest with yourself, OSU is absolutely not better than BAMA. In fact, nobody thinks OSU or WISC is better than AUB

Yes, Of course I think they got it right from an "eye test" perspective. The problem is that you can't prove it. and you can't say that the recent history of the program doesn't sway you in some way. Bama is better than Ohio state in my opinion. But splitting hairs of 4 or 5 should give more weight to the conference champ in my opinion. Because its something they did on the field. As well as taking some of the guess work out of it. I don't want an 8 and 4 conference champ in. Team is 5 with an extra game and hardware then go with what is proven instead of name brand.

It also prevents the advantage a non division winner has of getting an extra week of rest in most cases.
