Our offensive identity next year...

Jan 11, 2017, 8:10 AM

Mike was the go to guy...

With DW4, Leggett, MW, WG all leaving maybe Scott?

Who else from offense is gone?

Big shoes to fill....

Cooper / Johnson / Bryant at QB
Feaster / Fuller / Choice at RB
TE???
Cain / Winfrow/ Ray Ray/ Scott? / ???

Cain definitely made a huge leap in my mind in showing he can take the reigns as the go to guy.....

Thoughts?

Re: Our offensive identity next year...

Jan 11, 2017, 8:13 AM

Cooper at QB
Tee Higgins will support Cain for Mike's old role
Ray Ray will step into Scott's position
Feaster at RB
Milan Richards TE

Reload, not step back

Re: Our offensive identity next year...

Jan 11, 2017, 8:19 AM

It's it for sure Scott is gone?

Forgot about Higgins. If Higgins can be the new Cain and Cain be the new Mike....watch out!

Any seniors in our Oline?

Re: Our offensive identity next year...

Jan 11, 2017, 8:22 AM

Scott hasn't officially declared, but he participated on senior day and what not. 99% he is gone.

I actually think Cain stays where he is at. Tee is 6'3". He is more in the model of Williams than Cain is. Let him go deep and keep Cain on the intermediate routes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would bet that Scott will be back next year***

Not sure Higgins jumps Powell and Overton for the backup role.

Good call. Forgot about them :) Spoil of riches for WRs.

Re: Our offensive identity next year...

Jan 11, 2017, 8:40 AM [ in reply to Re: Our offensive identity next year... ]

Thompson and Overton will also be able to back up Cain. Powell will back up Ray Ray or Renfrow. Amari Cooper may get some PT as well. We are deep at TE and I look for Richard to have a big year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's going to be a step back on offense, don't kid yourself.

Jan 11, 2017, 8:44 AM [ in reply to Re: Our offensive identity next year... ]

The question is how much of a step back and just how good will the defense be next year. We are going to have the best DL in the country.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It's going to be a step back on offense, don't kid yourself.

Jan 11, 2017, 8:54 AM

I think our Defense is going to be lights out! ....which will be a luxury for us as we break in new parts on offense

THe D is likely to be better next year. I'm serious.

No step back at QB? DW4 is once-in-a-lifetime...

I don't see ANYONE replacing that dude without a step back.

Overton sp? = mike william

qb bryant, cooper,Johnson who wins it dang great! equal ? got 5
rb go 4 better
wr got 6 better
ol better
te got 4 equal

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So wait... you are saying that we have

Jan 11, 2017, 8:52 AM

5 QBs equal to watson, 4 RBs better than Gallman, 6 WRs better than Williams and Scott, a 4 TEs equal to Leggett? If so that's maybe the most ridiculous, homer comment I've ever read on Tigernet.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think we will struggle unless we can establish the ability

Jan 11, 2017, 8:36 AM

to run the ball consistently. I keep hearing how this offense is supposed to be able to do so but I have yet to see it. Yes, we have good rushing numbers from Watson scrambling or from running late in the game against mediocre teams, but anyone who's watched our games knows we can't man up and run the ball and dominate like other teams do.

The reason I say this has two parts:

1) It will tremendously help the defense if we can produce more consistently on offense (being able to run for the first down on third and short helps there tremendously)

and

2) As you've pointed out, we're losing a ton of proven talent and clutch ability. Williams, Watson, Legett, etc... those guys are not only good on paper, not only talented, but also great when it counts. That is the intangible that you just can't measure with star ratings. Our quarterbacks coming up, for example, are very highly rated guys. But let's be honest, we can't just assume that they're going to be able to do what Watson did. He flat out carried the offense on his back many times, as we were unable to run and the defense was pinning its ears back trying to hurt him, he kept his cool and tore them apart with the pass. That is not something you just replace automatically.

Re: I think we will struggle unless we can establish the ability

Jan 11, 2017, 8:44 AM

Our OL may be better next year. I believe we are getting to the point to where we can line up and run the ball. Our O will stay about the same though we are not a power running team so we will continue to do what we do. Ofcourse we will not have DW but our OCs proved in the Russell Athletic Bowl that we can still move the ball without him.

Re: I think we will struggle unless we can establish the ability

Jan 11, 2017, 8:52 AM [ in reply to I think we will struggle unless we can establish the ability ]

Exactly, no question we have talent on the roster....but who can we count on to utilize that talent.....especially when the pressure is on and it matters most?

The run game brings me back to the O line. Should be better....right?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I think we will struggle unless we can establish the ability

Jan 11, 2017, 8:57 AM

OL is still young but spring ball we will get after running the ball. Hoping Bryant will be used as a rb as he is big and fast.

Re: I think we will struggle unless we can establish the ability

Jan 11, 2017, 9:22 AM

After all the exposure our Clemson family has had this year, culminating in the national championship, I really expect a surprise commitment from a top notch running back on nsd.

As much as I like the sound of that....I would love more future first round O linemen.

Jan 11, 2017, 9:35 AM

I'm eagerly awaiting the next Hyatt and Crowder. Unless we get on that soon, we're going to miss them sorely.

The definition of awesome!

Fuller and Feaster as a 1-2 punch...

Jan 11, 2017, 8:39 AM

Will be big on offense. Fuller played well down the stretch, he will have a big year next year and Feaster will have plenty of opportunities.
I think we will be very good at WR...young guys like Overton, Powell, Higgins will bring quality depth, but we will lean on Cain, Renfrow, McCloud and Trevion Thompson if Scott leaves.
Several solid TEs...just may look different than Leggett did out there.

The big ? for the whole team next year is QB.
We will all need to adjust to not having DW4. We can still be very good, but my guess is that we will find out how great DW4 really was when he is gone.

Three words

Is that REALLY your thoughts on our WR lineup????

Jan 11, 2017, 9:41 AM

Overton, Powell, TEE HIGGINS, etc...????

Like...you are a Clemson fan that has no clue about our recruiting class this year or next?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

TIGER BALLS.

Re: Is that REALLY your thoughts on our WR lineup????

Jan 11, 2017, 11:18 AM

All unproven.... it's like you are anot illogical Homer or something.

Being realistic.... even Mike was not Mike his first year. Powell and Overton haven't seen much time so there is s Huge step forward they have to make. They have the talent.... but.....?

Re: Our offensive identity next year...

Jan 11, 2017, 10:20 AM

Welcome to big-time college football, where recruits red-shirt, play two years, and leave early for the nfl.

We have plenty of options in the positions we need to fill, the only question is who steps up. We may not know who steps up till the middle of next season (hopefully FSU and Louisville games are later). Guess we will have to trust the coaches to make the right call.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Our offensive identity next year...

Jan 11, 2017, 11:28 AM

Right on. Maybe I should have been more clear. We have a lot of unknowns with talent.... guys who haven't been THE GUY....

I was looking for the spots we can point to and know we can count on big time production when it matters.

Having said that....and to your point..... I think you are right and that's why our Top Defense will be such a blessing!

We haven't even had the parade yet

Jan 15, 2017, 3:03 PM

CJ Fuller will be the next Merriweather.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Bump....now with a little more clarity on who is leaving

Jan 15, 2017, 2:35 PM

Any more thoughts?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We'll baby the QB early, especially with our D

Jan 15, 2017, 2:59 PM

Not worried about WR, we have proven guys in Cain, Renfrow and Ray Ray and tons of talent behind them.

TE will be fine blocking, but who catches the ball. Look for Shadell Bell to get a long look in that role this spring. Another Brandon Ford

RB we need another recruit for depth. I'm comfortable with Fuller, Feaster and Choice. Can see us using them more as receivers next year in a simplified offense with the new QB.

OL with Crowder returning should be a strength. Falconelli got good PT at center this year and I really like Cervenka there. A lot of experienced depth as well.

Overall there will be some growing pains, but we're not taking a major step back if QB settles in, whoever it is. Talent is there to be explosive as usual. Cutting down turnovers should be an emphasis

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Deon Cain will make a LOT of money next year...

Jan 15, 2017, 3:01 PM

I'm just hoping it's between the sidelines.
