No RB's first round? Does this happen very often?

May 8, 2014, 11:39 PM

I thought RB's were the skill players that everyone wanted/needed.

This is the new NFL. RBs are worthless workhorses. 8ish WRs taken.

RB has lost huge value last few years

Yes. For example, in the prop bets Bovada released this week, the O/U on number of RBs taken in the first round was 1/2. FWIW, the over was paying out plus money.

Who are the top RB's by the way? None come to mind***

I can think of a few....

May 9, 2014, 7:52 AM

Andre Williams from Boston College,

Ka'Deem Carey from Arizona,

Carlos Hyde from Ohio State,

Jeremy Hill form LSU,

Bishop Sankey from Washington,

Tre Mason from Auburn, and

Devonte Freeman from FSU.

Carlos Hyde from OSU in top RB.

Likely none in the second round either

May 9, 2014, 12:43 AM

This is the first draft I remember with zero widely recognizable names at RB. The two best ones on the board are Carlos Hyde (Ohio State) and Bishop Sankey (Washington).

Tre Mason, Andre Williams, Storm Johnson. Guys like that would probably have been high picks in past drafts. Eddie Lacy was still Offensive Rookie of the Year IIRC

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Tre Mason as well

I could see one, two, or all of them going in the 2nd round.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Andre Williams from BC is exceptional IMO***

There will be at least two

taken in the second round. Most likely Tre Mason and Carlos Hyde although Jeremy Hill may get taken if a team is willing to take a chance on him with his character issues.

Sign of the times

A more pass oriented league combined with teams figuring out that most of the time RB is a salary cap drain because they can't stay healthy so it's smarter to draft them in the later rounds. This is the second year in a row that a RB hasn't been picked in the first round, and IMO you'll see this more in years to come unless the league goes back to a more ground oriented offense.

Team run RB's into the ground = they don't lost long =

May 9, 2014, 8:23 AM

they don't want to spend too much money on them

Re: No RB's first round? Does this happen very often?

May 9, 2014, 9:38 AM

Lots of folks have already mentioned it, but rb's have become more of a commodity position and rb's are injured often......why spend a ton of money on that position.

Also, what was it, about 10-15 years ago the league came to the realization that the left tackle is the 2nd most important position on the team after the qb, so you have seen lots of lineman taken in the first round in the last 10 years and there are only a limited number of 1st round picks.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

RB's don't carry big draft value anymore...

May 9, 2014, 9:54 AM

Trent Richardson was the last RB drafted high, and he has been a bust so far.
