Some of you act as if we can just snap our fingers and replace an offensive coach like Morris with someone better. I remember when Bowden lost Rich Rodriguez and hired Rob Spence....that was really good for our program. This could be the death nail for this team....

Your a bit over board. Death nail. Come on there are many good offensive coordinators in college football. Personally I would think Morris is to good for SMUs sorry program.

If you really are a Clemson fan??????????... then I bet the past few years you have been praising Morris instead of knocking him every chance you get.

You upgrade every year based on evaluations and of the 2 cordinators, he is easily the weakest of the two.

SMU is at a much different level than the jobs Morris has been linked to in the past.

You are right. Most of those jobs didn't involve 0-10 teams. He has done a pretty good job at Clemson when he has has something with which to work. That has not the case this year when Watson has been out. It will be hard for him to do much worse than what SMU has grown used to of late. Personally, I believe he could hold on and do much better in a year or 2, but we will find somebody else. I would bet that Jeff Scott gets that promotion, since he knows the offense. There will be many quality coaches who will want to get into a program like ours with the talent we have coming in, though (and I doubt we lose many commits due to this).

Wow Chad! You have been preparing two quarterbacks along with interviewing for a new job? Good riddance if so - last thing the Tigers needed was a distraction this week. Dabo - if you know this to be true, get Morris off of our field now! SMU will be a better fit for this guy - their stadium is smaller than quite a few Texas High School stadiums.

Really? The most highly visible week of the season...and Thanksgiving...and folks think Morris could disappear for house-hunting and interviews without it being noticed? No doubt, SMU is probably very interested, but to think there's been much more than phone calls or in-person visits by SMU officials would be quite a long-shot, in my view. Pretty sure Dabo's current on all aspects.

Also, regarding Scott. Lots of comments over who the next OC should be...with most folks opting for going outside, yet keeping Scott for recruiting purposes. Maybe it's the right approach...I don't know, but if you want loyalty on your staff, failing to promote from within when the time is right, won't get you loyalty...just a revolving door.

Why are you so bitter about Morris!? The man has done absolute wonders for Clemsons recruiting! He & Dabo have turned Clemson into a very good football team.

I just do not understand the bashing that you guys do on these coaches!!!? This is the best this school has done since Danny Ford in football & the best the school has ever had in recruitment & academics ever! Yall are an embarrassment to the Clemson name.

There hasn't been a coach at SMU that has been hired to lead a PARADE, let alone another football program, since Ron Meyer left to coach the Colts...

This is devastating if true...and sort of surprising seeing as SMU isn't a power conference team. I guess this would be his "stepping stone". Nowadays, many of the big programs are reluctant to hire a coordinator, no matter how successful, due to the failings of guys like Muschamp. This would give him a chance to show that he's able to manage an entire team and be successful, eventually potentially parlaying the job into a position with a more powerful program.

If this happens, then I wish all the best to him. I would like to see a full-time Watson along with our receivers next year, but we knew from the beginning that Chad was aspiring to eventually become a head coach. We can't be mad about that. He never made it a secret. This isn't a betrayal on his part. He helped push Clemson to the next level.

Let's just hope we can avoid any attrition on the recruiting trail and get a capable coordinator in here as soon as possible.

Hasn't Chad been linked to this job since June Jones walked?

[3]
Posted: Nov 28, 2014 8:45 AM

If he decides this is where he wants to hitch his future, all the best to him. But the timing to bring this up .... after his name has been in the mix for the position ... is suspect.

I will note that if this is indeed his final game in the Valley (and I'm not suggesting that it is) then I can think of no better time to finally open all those missing pages of the playbook and have some fun at the Capons' expense.

Either way, we are Clemson and shall be so long after the person who replaces the person who replaces Chad has come and gone.

I like that dude, Mike Norvell (Arizona ST OC) b/c he worked with CM in Tulsa, or Philip Montgomery out of Baylor. I feel like Jeff Scott will be named the new OC, but Lincoln Riley would be a decent hire and easily hirable. Mike Norvell and Philip Montgomery already make quite a bit so hiring them would pretty hard.

I'm a big fan of Chad Morris. He's made our offense capable this year despite some major injuries and the loss of tons of talent and leadership to the NFL. But if he wants the chance to move on, that's fine. Clemson is about more than Chad Morris and our offensive coordinator job will attract some big time talent.

That said, some people don't get that although Coots aren't good at much, they are good at being trolls on websites like this. In fact they lead the nation in trolling I believe. They can cause infighting on here faster than Clowney can come up with another excuse not to have to actually play for the Texans.

The prize is tomorrow. Chad Morris stays or he goes. Good luck to him either way. But we have some chicken kickin' to do. I believe in Clemson tomorrow with or without Deshaun provided we don't turn on ourselves and implode. Eyes on the prize everyone!

Let's enjoys watching Dye and Gallman making the Carolina defense look like a passel of opossums on 93 at about 3 am.

Chad Morris to SMU = Bittersweet

Posted: Nov 28, 2014 9:20 AM

The loss of a well-known and respected coach often negatively impacts the recruitment of elite players, not to mention the morale of players already on the roster. On the other hand, a better offensive mind can be hired as his replacement.

Re: Chad Morris to SMU = Bittersweet

Posted: Nov 28, 2014 11:32 AM

We haven't had a better offensive mind around here since Rich Rod. What makes you think we will get someone better than Chad?

Our latest woes have been directly related to Dabos insistence on playing Cole Stoudt. Not offensive play calling.

Re: New Story: Reports surface linking Chad Morris to SMU

Posted: Nov 28, 2014 9:45 AM

I doubt that he will leave he just got the play makers he wanted for the past few years. He just got Deshaun and Dye I think he will stay at least until they leave because recruited them heavily and those were the first people he offered scholarships to.

I seem to remember...

Posted: Nov 28, 2014 9:51 AM

Dabo stating in the past that this offensive style was his style. If true and Chad does move, which even though he is sometimes too conservative for me, I'd look for Scott to be moved up to the OC. He knows the system and is a great recruiter. With Watson's outlook to be healthy, our young receivers gaining experience in the system, the QB's, backs and OL that is coming in...if I were Chad...I'd want to work with my incoming talent for at least a couple of years and up my stock. Not to mention that he has put our offense on the national map. Thank you Chad.

Re: New Story: Reports surface linking Chad Morris to SMU

By far the worst year morris has had at clemson, the offense looked completely lost when watson was not playing and this is a direct reflection of the coaching job or lack of that he did this year for the rest of the players. If he had this much trouble running an offense because the right players have not been in place for his system here at clemson, how is he going to do with an 0-10 team and now he is responsible for everything?? Lot of luck with that....

Find it hard to believe any college team would pay someone three times more then what they are currently making now for the body of work he produced this year. I could see it in a couple of years if the next two years the offense was lights out with watson, dye & gallman and core of receivers we have in place.

Re: All need to leave if #6 is dropped

Bottom line, all the staff needs to resign if the Tigers lose to the "feather bunch " tomorrow. Just admit you can't do the job and tell the players and fans you are sorry and all this time there has been nothing but a cover up for poor leadership. Either get the job done or move on. There will NEVER be a more important game on the Tigers schedule than this one.

Listen fellow fans, I know that change is scary BUT:
- Morris is the moron that got C. Kelly kicked off of the team because Kelly kept arguing with Morris about being much better than C. Stout. Kelly is much better!
- read Morris's column to TigerNet..."Stout has what it takes to win". Is this the same Stout than we have been seeing who actually plays for the other team?
- Virtually every offense has seen him since 2011. He has simply ran out of trick plays and he knows it.
- Just in case you missed it above...he is the moron that got C. Kelly run off. All because he had promised Stout he could play his last year at CU instead of playing the clearly better Kelly. Think about it folks...how long did Morris keep Stout playing before he would even insert Watson. Morris never made this right. He continues to let the world believe it was Kelly.
If this rumor is true, it is the first step of many that Morris will take to his demise because he has continued to not make this right

Can't help but question the timing of all of this. Less then 36 hours before a game of this magnitude and this story comes out last night?? It appears that morris may not be all in, just as his coaching has shown all year. I don't know if many noticed but, there have been a few not so friendly conversations between Dabo & Morris the last several weeks on the sidelines. Just hope this BS was not done on purpose by someone who was planning on leaving and wanted to leave his mark on the biggest game of the year and the recruiting class we are suppose to have coming in.

Chad Morris has put Clemson's offense on the map. With the right QB(not Stoudt) this offense performs at a high level and scores a lot of points, and that is because of Chad Morris. Yes, Morris done things we haven't agreed with but overall he has done a Outstanding job. If he leaves its going to hurt, but the best thing to do would to be keep the scheme that has brought us so much success and promote Jeff Scott, who has learned this offense over time and is a great recruiter so he would be a great fit for OC.

He better leave while he has a pulse. He has got to be one of the fastest falling hot offensive coordinators out there. He could go there where he has so many ties and put up some big numbers like did here and fool them for his next job.

Dabo was heavily involved......

Posted: Nov 29, 2014 8:25 PM

I was thinking something might be up regarding Morris. Dabo was much more involved in the offensive huddles on the sidelines than usual. Wouldn't surprise me if something is announced this week.
