He really only lost one game last year, and that was more on the blocking than him (IMO).
We already know we can win with Kelly when the bullets start flying. All the others are still unproven at this point.
I fully expect (and most of you do too) Kelly to be the starter this year. The will be plenty of opportunities to get playing time for HJ & TL.
We are in a great position with the depth we have at quarterback. Let's not rush things.
Go Tigers!

Ya, you're still here but you're not good enough to win a National Championship. The defense bailed you out in more than game last year. Don't let the clip board get too far away. You'll be holding soon enough.

Wow! You passed up all those opportunities to criticize DW4 when the D bailed him out so you could save it up for KB.....
...you must be really afraid that DW4 was right in saying that KB was gonna be BETTER than he was.
This could be a shocking season for some people.

If Watson said that KB was going to be better than him he should get his cranium checked...I love KB just as much as the next guy and love Watson more, but KB isn't even close to being what Watson is or was...not even debatable...
As for KB starting...Ill support whoever wears the paw...

No way Bryant is ever better than Watson. Will anyone ever be better? Maybe TL, but it's hard to better. KBryant is obviously talented, but we all know he will never be better than Watson.

Aaah. You noticed too. Gee, I thought I was all alone with my thoughts. Go ahead and shant your pants. KB can beat the ACC but he can't beat Alabama. He's not good enough. You think he'll be drafted in the first round next year? Seriously? He won't even be drafted.

Let the coaches do the coaching and make those decisions. They know who is the best and you do not! All this negative talk just hurts our team. KB would have won the championship if our OL had played better. Just think how many teams would love to have him as their QB this year. He is a great athlete with a good arm who led us to a great season. Don't be spoiled that only the national championship matters. A few years ago we were hoping to be bowl eligible. The loss to Alabama was not his fault at all. We had two great running backs that had trouble getting back to the line of scrimmage. Tiger fans - STOP BEING NEGATIVE! Coach Swinney is going to play the best QB.

You maybe right, and if you are that would prove that DW4 was a championship QB even with a lacking OL.

Maybe the best post of the day. Some of the posts above are personal, not objective. Not worthy imo. Not even well intentioned. KB was and is a very good QB by anyone's standard. Just because he came up short against a great bama D makes it all his fault? He who suggests that is naive and wrong. Get over the past and look to THIS team. The coaches know best who will give us the best season at QB this year, but it's a team sport--never forget.

Kelly has much to prove...

High-hopes and a positive attitude by the fans on here do not erase the fears we all had last year when KB wouldn't throw or threw badly and chose to run instead... Remember? Only time will tell if he has learned to trust his arm and his receivers. If he hasn't, I sure hope he does not last as starter. We have too much talent on this team to make it a one-pony show... Bryant ran the ball almost 1/2 of the total plays... and failed to lead the team to extend drives into the 2nd halves... Remember?

I don't think anyone is going to "rush things," but how can they not play our best QB---whoever that turns out to be? It should be like any other position on the team in the best player starts. Anything else is a betrayal of the team, the school and the fans.

"Go to the cannon"????? Ohhhhhh Cannon Smith - the Tight End. The writer may want to edit that sentence - its confusing how its written.
As for the QB battle - I am still not 100% convinced that whole "If you have 2 QBs you don't have 'one' " ancient wisdom. You can swap out LB and RB all day. I think if you have enough talent and enough smarts on the sideline, it will work. It was conventional wisdom that said NFL QB have to learn the existing system. A system can't be altered to play on the QB's strengths. And then comes DW4 and the Texans....
As for anyone who would speak or post demeaning comments towards KB - starting QB or not - he wears the Paw the same as the others. And he deserves our support just the same.

The only reason for him to come out and make this sort of bold ### statement is that Dabo told him he will be starting and there is no way on God's earth that some freshman or anyone else will take his spot.
He lost two games last seasib. The defense bailed him out most of the time.

If KB improves on his field vision in the passing game he can lead the Tigers all the way to another Championship. For a FIRST TIME STARTER he actually had a great year. I actually believe that if there is no way to keep one of the other QBs off the field because they are that good then they will take over early in the season. A lot can happen between now and September so it makes me laugh when people come out and state EXACTLY what is going to happen. Why not try and be positive and support the team. KB is a great guy and he definitely has what it takes to win. It might not be in the style or as pretty as most want it, but a W is a W.
I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT THIS SEASON HOLDS.
GO TIGERS!

You do know Dabo has already publicly stated that KB is the starter until there is an announcement that he isnt the starter right?
So no there is no competition. The media/fans want there to be a competition to drum up interest and fill downtime

Yes, KB2 lost two games:
One game he was hobbling on a bad ankle and literally knocked out at halftime. This was also the defense's worst game of the season. It was on the road, on a short week, right after midterms, on Friday the 13th. Everything that could go wrong did.
The other was against the #1 defense in the nation who showed up with a chip on their shoulder.
KB was brilliant against SCar. In the ACCCG, KB kept the Turnover Chain in the box and demolished Miami. He led a great comeback against NC State when our defense was so depleted, Ray Ray was playing CB.

So why not try the kid at TE where he could have a chance at the league? We have 3 5* QBs riding the pine for no real reason other than loyalty to upper classmen.

Not sure why we ever started the historically accomplished QB in the first place.

Wow! You must be a football genius! Does anyone on TigerNet have contacts with the coaching staff? We need Dabo to plug into this guy's insight ASAP. Clemson football is in big trouble otherwise.
Other posters are going to mock you for your post. Not me, I will eagerly await your next brilliant football assessment. I just don't understand why the coaching staff hasn't figured this out... you'd think with all of the film, the constant analysis, being right there at the practices, in team meetings and at the scrimmages that they could see it as clearly as you, my new Football Wisdom Guru.
Thanks!

KB is a great athlete and our schedule sets up nicely for him this year. I don’t think KB will be challenged until Championship play where I feel will be much the same as last year where his vertical down field play will be minimized again because of facing better athletes and coaching (Clemson/Bama 2017). Just my $.02!

KB was awesome last year until bama's D bullied our entire offense. KB didnt have sure hands like a Mike Williams or Jordan Leggett, and you can't always throw to Renfrow. Deon Cain dropped a number of passes or wouldn't go get some passes that wasn't a catch in it stride through. He also didnt have a blocking back like Gallman. He did however have two homerun threats in the backfield that Watson never had the luxury of. Trevor will rise to his potential but I like the idea of not having to unleash him just yet and KB is well above Stoudt

Bama was playing inspired football on defense in the Sugar Bowl. Bama fans were saying that was one of the best games they've seen their defense play in a long time (and this is BAMA's D we're talking about).
In the third, KB had Ray Ray for an easy 6, but poor pass protection led to him getting hit as he threw. The ball practically fell into Dayron Payne's hands and that was that. Next offensive play, Deon Cain got abused by a CB, the ball was tipped, and again, fell right into the hands of a Bama player.
KB did a great job in running the offense with the players we had and he got better as the season progressed.
Hunter Johnson had a better arm, but was very much a freshman last year and prone to freshman mistakes. Could HJ have kept the Turnover Chain in the box like KB did? I don't know.
Trevor Lawrence will probably be better than both of them, but he's still learning the college game. Why put in a guy who is still learning and mistake prone when you have someone who went 12-1 when healthy?

do you just see the writing on the wall that KB is starting no matter what and then decide to make excuses and throw blame at every player but Kelly Bryant? Not only that but you're just labeling Lawrence as mistake prone without seeing him take a snap. I get supporting whatever decision Dabo makes but there's no need to rationalize it to this level.

Didn't I just see our offensive coordinator praising TL to the skies, saying, that "he doesn't look a freshman?" This based just on the first part of spring practice?? Is the coach wrong??

The offense "can" be good with......

Kelly Bryant, but... I think it can be great with Johnson/ Lawrence.
Honestly though. When teams loss their respect for KB's passing game, he did struggle. And plus, there weren't many games where the offense HAD to perform at a high level. And when they did need to, we loss---Syra/Bama. Either way, should be interesting.

Yes, And like Bama, they will crowd the line of scrimmage. Game over.

What the coaching staff worries about

The coaching staff is worried about the following:
1. The secondary. BV is NOT happy. 2. WR play, especially at the boundary position. Somebody needs to step up. 3. Pass protection, especially from the RBs. 4. Finding the right 5 guys on the OL.
What the coaching staff is NOT worried about:
1. Defensive line 2. QB - We can win with all four of them.

Bowden mentality.

Barring a RASH of injuries, if we go 10-2 with this team, that's an abject failure.

I thought we were really worried about our defensive secondary. If we can't defend the pass, it could be a long, long season. From what I understand, we can't afford a single injury in our secondary.

Maybe KB can play corner.

A dominant front seven can cover a lot of holes behind them.
