UVA's D looks solid enough to keep things closer.
Their issue is lack of down field passing under the QB the coaches keep starting.
Not sure if the jump ball to the big WR will be a constant gainst the Cougars.

If I were in Vegas, I would take Virginia on that one. I would bet on us at the current spread, but I believe the spread will widen as we near game time. The spread is all about keeping the book balanced and not a true handicap. There are far more FSU fans nation wide than Clemson fans. That skews the points spread away from FSU to keep the book in balance.

BYU obliterated Texas at Texas a couple weeks ago. From what i can tell BYU is pretty tough to run on, but can be beat down the field. Unfortunately that isn't really what UVA does.
Not saying UVA won't cover, but i don't think i would bet on them.

The spread is a popularity contest, not a prediction of outcome.

Regardless of what you think the definition of "the spread" is. It is still a lack of respect either way

Yes. When you're a 17 point dog and everyone is still betting on FSU, forcing the line to 20, that's called not getting respect.
(I did read below, and I do know a lil bit about how Vegas works)

Not exactly. Team popularity does play a role as teams

with bigger fan bases tend to get more action on their side from their fans, but the line is largely based on expected outcome and public opinion.
So teams like ND, OSU, and probably FSU will get a couple of extra points on their lines to offset the homer bets, but nothing to the tune of 20+ points. The oddsmakers and general public both feel we are gonna get obliterated in Tally, and it doesn't have much to do with popularity or sexiness.

Until Clemson learns how to play aggressive, attack defense and offense as well as aggressive four quarter football we will have a difficult time competing with the Ga's and the FSU's. CU has to be a more physical team to compete. If we play as we did against Ga. in the fourth quarter a 20 point underdog for FSU is about right!

And the defense really didn't do a bad job until they were worn out but what do you expect when they're exhausted?! You have to realize it's not the players fault for the offensive play calling right? Or no?!

With the way we play against our biggest opponents each year
Sep 14, 2014, 7:47 PM

this is an accurate spread. People are learning when we lose, we play horrible. FSU is expected to win, so the natural assumption is we will play terrible. Only way we change this is, is to go out and play with some cajones and beat FSU.

We scrape together respect only to crap the bed and set ourselves way back again. We can't continue to get blown out on the big stage.

any respect against FSU until we play them tough or win. We're going to have to earn it - just hope we show the oddsmakers that they're wrong.

The oddsmakers do not give a sh.t who wins. They just adjust the line to keep the book balanced. Popularity contest more than anything.

Relax folks!
This spread is soley to up the betting ON Clemson!
That way they hedge their bets and still make money. The oddsmakers know that the game will be closer and each day that spread will go down....not up!
Clemson wins it!! Despite the oddsmakers!
Go Tigers!!!

NONE OF YOU UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSE OF POINT SPREAD .
Sep 14, 2014, 9:27 PM
|

It's a bet line period not because of gameday ,GEORGIA REDNECK ACADEMY LOST, none of that. To much was being wagered on the FSU side and not ours so the line increased to entice bets to take us. Vegas could care less who wins this game they just want 10 million on one side and 10 mil on the other..... Cause the losers pay the gig ( loss plus 10% of their bet ) it's Vegas baby all the local bookies pass the bets down to the bigger fish . That fish passes it down and so on. ... By the 9 or 10 minute mark of the first quarter it's all in Vegas or at the little brothers in Atlantic city . PERIOD !!
Yea I bet a little so what !

It is a simple concept. I have yet to figure out why almost no one understands the sports bet and the handicap. They keep the books balanced and their profit is a commission, called the Vigorish, that they collect on losing bets. In the days of the Mafia running sports betting, they would intentionally get the book out of balance on a sporting event they had "fixed." Now, that does not happen. "Balanced book" is how the sports book operates. Computers adjust the spread after initial opening. You can sit in a sports book of a small casino and watch the line change when you bet. I have seen it change 1 point the second a $5000 bet was placed.

yes, but it is a prediction of the outcome by the experts in Vegas that have a lot of experience and reasons to get it right. they are right more than they are wrong. when the line starts to move w/ the bet, it is the consumer mkt reflecting on what they think will happen against that spread. unless we see the line got from -20.5 to +1, everyone thinks we're going to lose.
