Mountain Bikers, GITT

So I've dusted off the old mountain bike that has been mostly dormant for a decade (other than slapping some slicks on it and riding on the road).
Now that I have my kids riding, I went to put the offroad tires back on my bike and realize they're dry rotted.
The big shocker - apparently 26" tires are a thing of the past??? When TF did that happen? I was still active in the "scene" when 29ers came out, but then apparently 27.5"ers came out too??? I totally missed that one.
ANYWAYS>>>>>>> I've always run Panaracer Fire XC Pros, but they are very limited these days and about $50/tire.
Anybody have any opinion on a good MTB tire that would work for me?
Tubed tire 26" Thickness 2" - 2.3" (I think I could stuff a 2.3" tire.... the panaracers were 2.1" Local trails, mostly XC type stuff some light mud, but mostly hardpack.
FYT:
Do any of you fatties even ride?

got the frame for like $200.
Robbed all of the goodies off of my old 2002 Gary Fisher and stuck on there.
The bike is pretty much full Shimano XT (like early 2000's shimano XT), with A Rock Shox Reba Super Light fork and hydraulic disks. It's pretty solid.
That 3700 will do anything you need, though. My bike has Presta valves... a trade off for getting some seriouly nice wheels at a discount. NBD, though. You can buy a presta to shrader adapter for like $1 and just leave it threaded on. Or most bike pumps work on either.

does nothing great. It is a hybrid and I bought it new in 2012 thinking I was going to get into riding. I did not get into riding. I may now that the kids are getting older.

And I’m super old skool. Panaracer dart on the front and smoke on the rear.
Ignore the stupid wheel size fad. 26’s rule.

and getting back into routine mountain biking...that said, I was never really picky about tires
was reading some reviews (both published write-ups, and rider reviews) of a particular bike a few weeks ago that had WTB Vigilante up front, with WTB Ranger on the rear, and pretty much everyone who mentioned it loved that combo

amazon prime $37/each. Should do the trick. 590gr/tire, I think. which is fairly light.

I heard terrible things about those. They cause premature eja>culation, adult pattern baldness, and they taste like rubber.

Sounds like a good excuse to buy a new mtb bike. Lots of new technology (and standards) since 26'ers were around. Tell Mrs Adidas that you can't find parts any longer.
