Really, what else do they have to pin their hopes too ? Historically, hasn’t it always been some worthless metric they interpret as the sign of greatness to come ?

They’re so desperate to be relevant in football, they’ll convince themselves the stars are aligning and the worm is just about to turn for good. It’s SEC affiliation. It’s SEC money. It’s SEC players and coaching they’re sure we’re just born superior. It’s we finally have the right coordinator or position coach. It’s our head coach is building it “the right way”. It’s the other guys are “cycling out” and it’s about to be our turn. The magic elixir is always just around the corner for them.

.....And when their expectations never pan out there’s a list of tried and true excuses they use to explain it all away..........again.

That's as good a guess as any . People wanna scoff at stuff like this and those type of people are a few of the many who for at least a year now had wrongly assumed that Jake Benchley could never dream of besting Trevor Lawrence in a golf cart hitting contest .
