go back and take a look at the contracts drad issued at gt and what gt's current financial situation is. to give you a hint look at what happened with paul Hewitt and they owe paul Johnson so much buyout money they could not fire him after this past year. 300 or so people at their spring game is a good indication of what is going on down there. once again please read about how much debt they are in. drad also had a new basketball arena built a few years ago before he departed. makes for very interesting reading I must say.

doners have to be coddled. Winning will take care of attendance and we will put a more exciting brand of basketball on the court this year. Personally I liked how we played last year but the average fan will enjoy this type of basketball next season. I see a 5+ win improvement next year even without KJ.

he hasn't really done anything to warrant that kind of extension.
But I can understand it. Clemson bball is a marginal program and if you feel you've got a good coach thats charting the right path then you need to lock him up as much as you reasonably can.

Do you realize the mess he was left with? He basically lost two years of recruiting with marginal players to work with.
Clemson is not Duke or UNC in basketball so to expect a Sweet 16 run is ludicrous. He is an outstanding coach, always has the team prepared, has solid game plans, develops players exceptionally well, is highly ethical (unlike certain Final Four teams) and has given Clemson basketball an identity.
He's been very successful everywhere he has coached and will at Clemson. Guy knows the game and how to build a program. Let's support him a bit more and I think the results might surprise you.

takes Clemson bball to the tourney consistently. Its pefrectly reasonable to expect that each year and a good sweet 16 run every 4-5 years. At least be in the mix of things. He is a good coach, but that doesnt always win games. Need to grab the players also as they win you ballgames when it matters. He gets some decent talent, but nothing unexpected.
You mention ethics and Im guessing you are referring to high level talent players on the final four teams. If BB could get those kids then he would take them, but he cant.
Im optimisitc about the future, but not sure a 6 year contract makes sense. I trust DRad, but BB needs to get in the tourney next year.

I think he would have made the tourney next and won a couple of games, if his best to be senior hadn't left.

IF is a big word. kj IS gone so your word IF does not apply. IF grandma had ba$$s she would be grandpa. but SHE don't and we cant hold our season next year on IF's. excuses don't win anything!

"He basically lost two years of recruiting..."
I've seen several people say this. Can somebody explain how that is true? He definitely lost 1 year of recruiting, the would-have-been seniors last season. His next class was Rod Hall, KJ McDaniels, Bernard Sullivan, and TJ Sapp. I don't get how that is a lost year of recruiting. I know they recruit multiple years in advance, so he didn't have as much time as usual, but he obviously had plenty of time to recruit a solid class, and did not lose a 2nd year of recruiting.

I think he may be referring to the exodus of players that left with Purnell. I believe we had a couple of guys transfer out when he left, too.

Brownell's 32 ACC regular season wins over first four years = most ever by a Clemson MBB coach.

Best Coach on campus. Period.
Good thing we have well schooled athletic people making these decisions. They realize they have one of the best coaches in the country.
Stoked about this move!

I have been impressed with Brad Brownell, but a 6 year contract seems to be too much of a commitment to me. (considering the challenge of the position and the results to date)
Having said that, I think if Clemson is going to compete with the elite basketball programs, they would be best served with a coach that presents a stark contrast to the coaches those programs have.

It seems to me that Greg Buckner (if interested) might have been a better choice.
