Its a great complaint to have and they are not performing

Clemson recruits pretty well, most bench players would play ALOT at most any other school. They have not performed today, do you disagree ??

Agree about getting good experience, but play like they have been taught in practice and stop giving up garbage points. That is everyone's complaint.

What in the world are you talking about? 2 touchdowns by Wofford? The standard you folks have in your mind is just ignorant as hell.

We're just not too deep like last year. We will be next year though.

Through 9 games last year, the best I can tell is that the non starters had given up 38 points. This year it appears to be 49. For me, it's not enough difference to be overly concerned about.

They are much worse than that point difference.

We're not even playing g the same defense

as last year. Except this week against Wofford and last week against BC, the only two teams on our schedule that line up and run the ball, we've been in a 3-3-5 all year.
So we're only playing 3 DT types; Davis, who is a stud. Pinckney's, who has been very good. And Williams, who has come on strong the last several games.
We're actually deeper at DE than we were last year. Thomas, Foster, Rudolph, Henry and Mascoll all playing a lot.
The strength of the defense is the back seven/eight. Venables has masterfully exploited that. Who exactly in the playoffs is going to line up and run it at us? Not Bama. Not LSU. Not OSU. Not Oklahoma. Not Oregon. Not Utah.
We're much better off in the 3-3-5 against everyone of those teams, as they all spread the field.

I like our 2nd string last year across the entire DL better than this year at every position. Then of course DT is not even close.

All three that have played the most, have played very well. Davis has been outstanding

Williams is average imo. He is okay. He is getting a little better though. We need him to step it up for the playoff. Hopefully he does. I put nothing past Venables. To be honest though, the only DT that we have that I truly feel good about is Davis.

Pinkney was 2nd string last year with Huggins
Nov 2, 2019, 10:37 PM

And he's better this year than last year. Williams, now that he's healthy, has been consistently making plays.
It's a different defensive scheme. Why wouldn't it be with Simmons who plays all over, Muse at S who plays like a LB, and Wallace, Turner and Johnson also at S who can cover WR's?

Next year the scheme will change again

as DL will again be the strength of the D. Just thank God we have a DC that doesn't force a particular style and gears things to take advantage of where our strengths lie.
This defense overall has been as good if not better than last year's, just in a different way

I'm not complaining about it all, but I do think

there was a good bit less dropoff between starters and reserves last year than this year. Last year our 2nd teams on offense and defense were both pretty darn good.
