I'm a brownell supporter, BUT

Mar 23, 2013, 11:18 PM

Watching programs like Wichita St just makes me wonder. Can Clemson really not recruit like these teams mid major programs?

As much as I like brownells coaching, I have ZERO confidence in brownells recruiting. You think these teams have great basketball facilities? Heck no. It's not about facilities, as they lead you to believe.

Recruit these backyard hard working kids. Model your team like a mid major. That is how this Clemson team can build some basketball tradition.

We're not gonna compete in the ACC by trying to out recruit

Mar 23, 2013, 11:19 PM

We need to recruit smarter. Not higher rated.

They have better then Clemson and much better support!! When OP came to Clemson he left a Dayton program that had far better support and facilities. Clemson is the problem with Clemson basketball if they don't want a good or elite basketball program just keep doing what they have been doing, hiring a new coach every 5 years. They will fire Brownell within the next two seasons and hire a coach who will win and leave or get fired unless they change what they do.

W. State has a huge advantage in not playing in the ACC

Mar 24, 2013, 12:32 AM

They get to play a relativly easy conference schedule, gel as a team, gain confidence and learn how to win games. They get to grow as a team without having the growing pains being too painful. Clemson gets to try and gel as a team against UNC, Duke, etc.... and it will only get worse.

Dont really agree with that.

Have you watched any of their games this year? They have more talent than we do.

There are a lot of A-10 teams that have more talent than we do. However, unlike the A-10 schools and big mid majors....we are a football school

agreed...there are 100+ schools in America with more talent

Mar 24, 2013, 8:02 AM

than us...maybe 150

These mid majors your talking about

Mar 24, 2013, 12:50 AM

basketball program is the equivilent to football for us, its the number 1 sport. in fact, a lot of these mid majors probably dont even field a football team. That means ALL of the fan support is for basketball, most of the money the athletic dept gets goes to basketball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly. And it is usually the same group of mid majors

Mar 24, 2013, 1:51 AM

Your Butlers, Xaviers, Creightons.....All basketball dedication and fan support.

Note their roster includes eight players who are juniors or seniors and at least four who are junior college transfers. We don't really know if our guys can play or not as freshman and soph's.

Most of the smaller schools have lower academic
