He may be the second coming of Brady, but so far he picked a good day to have a great day.

Absolutely, and Hyatt returning is huuuuge. It allows us to put Carman on the right side for now and maybe experiment with Pollard/Anchrum inside. Talk about shoring up the OL.

All depends on the QB.
D will be even better this year. Bigger, stronger, faster, and another year of experience on their belts. Not to mention the depth that we will have at legitimately every position because of how we played this year and losing so few people.
OL will be better with Falcinelli having a year under his belt already and every one of them having good play time. Also allows Carman to play RT and slide the others inside where I think they're a better fit. Etienne has a year in the weight room to get bigger & stronger and a better run blocker along with Feaster being able to have another year. All of the RB depth we have legitimately gives us SO many options.
WR I personally think we'll be better overall. Yes losing Cain hurts us as a deep threat but for some reason he never looked really engaged this year a whole lot. Even earlier in the year it looked like he was playing tentative IDK. But with Higgings, Powell, Kendrick, Renfrow, Chase, Thompson, Rodgers, and everyone else we're 3 deep at every position.
Not to mention we lost our best blocking TE before the season with a Torn ACL and that really hurt us as we saw both in pass protection & run blocking. All of our TE's have another year in the system, expect vast improvement from all of them.
Special teams we saw how Spence ended the year, and how Huegel was doing throughout the year not to mention Potter kicking off and into the endzone is a HUGE get for us. So overall I expect that to be better.
The only thing is who is our QB driving the bus. That's all that's stopping us, literally.

Falcinelli was actually a fifth year junior. He still has a year of eligibility

If he's been here 5 years then he's out of eligibility unless he got a medical redshirt which would give him a sixth year.

A sixth year of eligibility has to be specifically approved by the NCAA.

Imagine the entire line coming back.
Now add Yeargin back.
Now add Rudolph back.
Now add XT & KJ as VERY good backups on DE.
Imagine how good the linebackers were this year. Now, bring them all back, except DoD.
- Now imagine, the Growth and Step that TRE will take. Same for Skalski. Same Chad Smith.
- Imagine Shaq Smith finally "getting it" and getting meaningful snaps.
Seriously, the Defense could be just filthy!!

Nobody is happier than Paul Johnson that O'Daniel is finally gone. Hopefully someone steps up and feels that role. I could see a guy like Simmons or Muse taking over that spot if there's a move at Safety. Denzel Johnson could take over one of the Safety rolls and depending on how good Kyler McMichael is....a lot of comparisons to Deandre McDaniel. The D will def be nasty either way if the Big 3 return, or if just 1 or 2 return

What do you mean by favorite?
Jan 10, 2018, 6:20 PM
|
|
Vegas odds: Alabama will be have the best odds (and already do)
AP/Coaches pre-season #1 rank: It will be Alabama
Some pundits might pick us, but that wouldn't really make us the favorite.

Gun to your head, if you had to make a pick

Just curious, if those guys all returned if it would affect your pick for the Natty, or not.
Sounds as if you would put your $ on Bama. Hard to argue that.
Let's just say it's just a gut feeling i have...those guys wouldn't come back for no reason.
The leadership on D with those guys returning ? Woah.

Would it affect my pick for Natty? Yes, but it wouldn't necessarily flip it. I'd like to see some improvement in our offense.
Money on Bama? I never bet on sports (particularly when it involves a team that I have an emotional attachment). I was just saying what the Vegas odds on favorite would be.
I think the guys might be coming back based on NFL draft pick potential (or in Clelin's case the chance to get his degree). According to David Hood, they aren't getting first round draft grades based on how the draft might shake out. They might want to come back to take another year and up their draft stock. The difference between 1st round money and 3rd round money is huge. If you're not hurting for money and don't have a family depending on you, why not take another year.
I agree that the leadership on D with those guys returning would be off the charts. They would be excellent role models for the incoming 5* guys (XT, KJ Henry) and others too. I'd like to see those guys crush it in the weight room during the off season too.

Our Schedule next season is going to be weak , which will be a big change from the last 2 seasons. The Tigers should be undefeated going into the CFP. The only team with a chance to beat us next year would be Miami if they win the Coastal. TAM on the road could be close but we should kill them. IMO the only teams in the Nation that will be on our level is Bama and UGA.

Season depends on QB position play, and from your prior posts, we are on different sides of that debate. But we can agree on wanting championship next year.
