Bank fees are rediculous!
Jul 29, 2020, 11:14 AM

How do they get away with charging a “non account holder fee” to cash their own check at their own bank?
It’s like the Mafia taking a cut out of your profit back in the days when Luigi & Rocko would stop by the store to collect their “protection money”.

a "non account holder fee" because you don't have an account with them.

I haven't found the need to "cash a check"

in over 20 years. Use mobile deposit and then get cash from an ATM (and my online bank eats the fees when I use other banks). It's just a complete non issue. There's plenty of viable alternatives available to avoid bank fees.

now if you use a Kioski at a convenient store, they charge you for that. $2.50 now becomes $5.00.
OUCH!!!

Open an account with one of the many banks that reimburse ATM fees.

I agree. Banks make a fortune on bank fees. This is one thing I have complained about banks. I am now with a credit union. They don’t have the some of the regulations as banks. At least so I am told.
Some banks have policies now where you cannot deposit cash in another person’s account. I tried to put cash in my daughter’s account. We are with the same bank so I had to write a check. Then the money would not be available for my daughter to use until the next day. I know Wells Fargo and Bank of America have this policy.

I think it’s a way to start eliminating the use of cash. When Verizon pulls that crap on me I tell them that Spectrum and T-Mobile have offered me a great offer. Then they give me a courtesy waiver of the payment fees. I have been with them 29 years.
You can download Verizon’s app on your smart phone and pay your bill for free in about 2 minutes or less.
If you use Frank Abagnale’s method to use a credit card for everything if someone hacks your account you are not responsible for the charges. If they hack your account with a debit card unless you have insurance coverage the hacker could wipe out your account.
There are so many ways hackers can get your money it’s getting scary.
Good luck my friend.

My daughter is still in college and we both use Wells Fargo. As long as she puts your name on her account, you can transfer funds from your account to hers on line and the money goes in right away. There are no fees with this.
If she uses a different bank than you, your bank probably has an App that allows you to transfer money immediately to hers. For example, Wells Fargo uses the Zelle app and it's tied to her phone number. You can send money through Zelle and it also goes in right away with no fees. Your name doesn't have to be on her account with Zelle. You can check it out at ZellePay.com. Some banks use PayPal for this. Good luck.

Have you seen the movie with Tom Hanks “ Catch Me if You Can” it’s based on a true story. Frank Abagnale went to work for the FBI and has made millions designing security features into checks.
He said the best way to handle financial transactions is to always use a credit card. Then pay it off with an electronic transaction each month. He does not have a checking account. Go to YouTube google Frank Abagnale gives about an hour seminar. Based on his method he said the best way to secure your money and eliminate bank fees.
Just some information I thought some might find helpful. I am moving my money around so I can use his method. I hope this helps some of you guys.

Remember the days you could write a check at the store and it would not clear for 2 or 3 days. Not anymore it's debited from your account immediately.
Somehow I always get behind someone that still takes the time to write out a check in a store. Many times the store hands the paper check back to them after it is scanned. Get a card I want to say. Same difference. lol.

I don’t use checks to pay bills either, my bills are auto-paid by my Business Credit Card that is solely for recurring bills... I pay my C/C off each month by E/C to eliminate interest charges to my C/C. Works great!
I had just gotten a small commission check from my broker for a recent R/E sale and the bank our Realty Company Account is with (First Citizens) happened to be 2 streets over, so I stopped there for convenience. They wanted to charge me $8 to cash what is virtually a payroll check!
I spoke to the manager and he waived the charge but to me that’s just nonsense.

Makes me think of people who won't pay a bill over the phone or internet out of fear of their account information being stolen. That's a legit fear these days for any form of payment of course. However, those same people would rather mail a check that has their entire account and routing numbers written on it so that the person who receives it will put the information into a computer anyway.

because since they have so many branches/ATMs all over the country I can avoid going to other banks and having to pay fees to use their systems. You just have to plan ahead and fees won't be a major problem.

I use to bank with Wells Fargo and would deposit cash from time to time mostly $20 bills and no more than $500 per deposit. They charged me a few bucks each time I made a cash deposit. I bank with local banks now. Screw WF

They will waive the fees if you offer up a good sized roach soaked in hash oil. The kind that permanently stains your fingers dark brown and even bleach won't remove it. Try it sometime.
