This was written by my nephew about my father in law who passed away a couple of years ago...When I look at this picture, I think how VERY young he was...By the way, he always joked about being wounded not once but twice on July 4th. He was 18 years old in this picture I believe....Anyway, thanks to all of our VETS!



"This is Sgt. William Leon Dodson, 329th Infantry, 83rd Div. U.S. Army. On July 4, 1944, the 83rd Div left Carentan, France on what was supposed to be short march that turned into a six day battle that claimed 1400 men in the first 24 hours.. He was wounded twice that first day. He lived to be discharged on Christmas Eve, 1945 and returned home to Ware Shoals, SC. To me he is my Grandfather, and a hero, and I hope to be half the person he was. Thank you to the men and women who serve and have served our country!"- William Leon Dodson,III

Thanks, Spud. My son was a B-17 turret gunner. Shot down over Germany and prisoner of war. Miraculously he made it home to ole Fort Lawn. That was TRULY America’s Greatest Generation. Bud says thank you for the post and to have a nice day. CCCOOOLD here!
