I think we probably go for it.
My thinking is that if you look at the probability of these things occurring:
1) We hit the 49 yard FG
2) We hold them for the last 45 seconds or so (they don't get the winning FG on the next drive)
and
3) We win in OT
is less than either of these 2 options
1) We get the first down
2) We get some more yards and run down the clock
3) We hit an easier FG
4) We win in OT
or
1) We get the first down
2) We go on to score the winning TD in regulation
I think either of the last two scenarios gives us a better chance at winning, but I'm only going by perception.
Likewise, had we missed on the TD play at the end and had the ball with 1 second left on the 2 yard line, I probably would've advocated for going for the win right there as well. It seems to me the probability of them stopping us from the 2 a second time is less than the probability of all the things that could go wrong in OT.
But none of that happened and we're the friggin national champs.

night. I don't really even want to think about it again. Huegel's career long was 47 and i think 49 would've really been pushing it in terms of his leg strength. I think we would've gone for it.
