Seems like we are doing pretty well with in-state recruiting

Since i've heard some complaints about our in-state recruiting, I was a little surprised to see how well we are actually doing. There are 11 in-state recruits that have been pursued by the big schools. Ten of them have committed (Huggins is the exception). Here is the breakdown of where they have committed:
CLEMSON 5 UNC 2 SC 2 FSU 1
Huggins has ruled SC out, so they are done at 2. I think we get him and end up at 6. Looks pretty good to me.

Why anyone would choose to play ball in that pit, THE WORST PART OF SC, is astonishing…Cornhole. There's something in these hills! George Jones himself once said to my friend, who played guitar with the 'Possum - The whole world's just waiting for you to be happy.

few years by any measure we have "struggled" somewhat in state but it has been offset by some VERY strong years in Georgia and Florida, and elsewhere. This year we are going very well in Virginia. Throw in some guys now and then from NC as well.
It seems fairly obvious the strategy has been to broaden the map and the consequence is fewer in state guys but more top guys out of state. Is it working? Seems to be.
I'm not sure what rationalizing away the in state struggle does for you, it is not the same as saying recruiting overall sucks.

Here is this list. This particular list is from ESPN, but you can find the same players listed as the top in-state players by Rivals or 247. The top 11 are the ones i'm including because those are the ones that have offers from top schools. The argument I am "rationalizing" is that getting 6 of the 11 in-state recruits we were after is pretty good, especially when SC is only getting 2. What am I missing?

...I do appreciate the original post, because any and all evidence of our increasing success in instate recruiting is welcome news; but you are right and well-said, my unknown compatriot. I consider your post as an improvement upon and an extension of a comment I posted a few days ago. After Zack Bailey, as expected, donned his Chicken Costume, I asked the board about the whys and wherefores of our instate recruiting struggles. The next thing I know, a T-Netter questions my allegiance! Hellfire, man! I'm pretty new to TNet posting, but I seemed to have lost popularity on that one…at least my pulse fell sharply. I don't even know what that signifies. Bailey should have come to Clemson. Tough to lose an national calibre instate O-Lineman. Alright. Fine. Not our concern. Sail on, Master Bailey. The Queen is Dead, Long Live the King! All the same, We dodge, bob and weave. Huggins. HUggins! HUGGins!! HUGGINS!!! Parking Lot U selling Pole shift nonsense!? This is our state, YA bleedin' muppets!!! Once we restore the natural order of the world in November, instate recruiting WILL shift and Coots will get an altogether different pole, indeed. This bizarre, extended and despicable hallucination of Chicken A** Hat JVs pecking around OUR state will end with one stump, one hatchet and one dead bird. One anecdote (perhaps off topic, still) - Like many of us here, I'm an old-school Tiger. Later, I was privileged to be a part of the Class of 1985. In 1981 had the pleasure of witnessing our boys strangle Herschel Walker in game 3 of that season. That day I sat on the topmost step of the south side stairs in the student section PACKED to the gills, maniacal and demonic. Two steps below me was an elderly GA fan wearing a spectacularly hideous silver construction hat with a full and DETAILED miniature diorama of Sanford Stadium on top. I tell you, if that ill-advised gentlemen was working on any railroad at all, the GA band, et al, should throw that #### score in the dumpster fire about to ignite and rain down upon Athens…the bums are stamping there feet now and humming.

If you really think we have struggled in state you are buying the garbage they are feeding you. Yes we have missed out on the states #1 player in recent years but overall we have still out recruited our rivals more years than not. I can't remember if it was last year or the year before that was the exception but it's not as bad as most seem to think.
