"Clemson’s freshman safety was thrown into action after Tanner Muse was ejected for targeting in the first quarter, and Simmons played well. He led the Tigers in total tackles with seven, including six solo stops."

There was a lot of confusion subbing players right then... pretty sure they said dabo was in full sprint to call timeout.

That ball was thrown to the WR behind the TE and the TE made a leaping play to catch that ball. Even Herbstriet made a comment on that.

Hard to say, I am not entirely sold on Muse just yet and Think Simmons has a much higher ceiling.

Muse in an enforcer in the run game. He isn't slow either. If he gets his instincts down...

That's a tough call through just one game but you raise a good point. Simmons is definitely a beast

get ejected for targeting at some point this year. I didn't realize it was going to be in the first half of the next game though.
Muse has great physical tools and he's a violent hitter but he seems to play with reckless abandon and there's definitely times where that can bite you.

Nah -- Van actually looked like the biggest liability to me. He seemed cautious to cut it loose on that knee. His quickness/mobility just wasn't there.

I'm not too worried about the mistakes the younger guys might make. Van Smith hasn't improved his instincts much. He has given up lots of big plays through poor tackling, poor angles, blown assignments during his career. I'm surprised we don't see more posts about him here.

We all have. That's the problem. It feels like it makes us forget about all of the major mistakes he makes. Watch the games last year. He gave up a lot of big plays

I have to agree. They say that Muse has great speed, but he always seems to be a step slower than the other guys. I had the same feeling in the first two games too. But, what do I know; if the coaches think he is better, he must be better!

I think 2 of the Louisville TD's were specifically targeting areas he should have been covering, so no we did not improve as a unit, but not for Simmons lack of talent — just his lack of experience.

I sometimes feel like Muse could be better served moving down into the box and training at O'Daniel's spot. He'd be a hell of a SAM linebacker after Dorian leaves, but I'm not a coach for a reason.

I think we actually had 12 men on the field, and it was not flagged, on the TD play. Dabo could not get the refs attention fast enough for the TO.
Both Simmons and Muse are very good IMO. Both have their strengths, and shortcomings (I guess). I like the way both guys hit people.

Let me get this straight...
Sep 18, 2017, 10:58 AM
|
|
Are some of you guys questioning the coaches? One is the head coach who took us a national title in a darn long time and one who is the best defensive coordinator in the country.
Don't forget the fact that most Clemson fans questioned the decision to play Kelly Bryant and claimed he wasn't accurate enough to be the Clemson starting QB. Now, he's put one of the most impressive stats as the starter.
Did I get that right?
