Flag disposal

So I have had the same Clemson flag since freshman year 1990. I fly it outside on gamedays and it has really faded over the years and become a bit frayed around the edges. I just received a new flag. What is the proper disposal method for the old flag? Part of me thinks a Viking funeral would be cool but burning a flag seems way wrong. Any ideas?

Locate a Gamecock house and sneak onto their roof at night (street facing side) and staple it down to the shingles.

The proper way to dispose of and American flag is to cut it up with scissors into cloth strips and then burn it. This way you are burning clothe strips or rags and not an American flag. I supposed this method would be good enough for a Clemson flag if it is good enough for Old Glory!

Our local boy scout troop does a flag disposal ceremony once a year I think. I know my DAR group collected them last year.

Some American Legions and VFWs also do flag disposal ceremonies.

You should not post such garbage--- you are ill advised, check with the American Legion and get your info straight!!!

I frame mine as a backdrop to ticket stubs and memorabilia from the season.

Thanks for the good ideas. I like the thought of framing it in the garage and I didn't know the exact method to dispose of Old Glory so I appreciate that as well!

Definitely frame it and hang it up somewhere as a reminder of where the tigers have been and where they are now. Especially starting in he early 90’s and where they are now.

Faded flags make great wall decor items. Put it in your den on the wall.

Burning is recommended for Old Glory so I'd say the same with the Tiger flag.

I had one to stay over the entrance of my car port for so long, that the paw was completely gone, and I replace it this year with a brand new one, and my wife says to me, thank God!!!

Flag Disposal
1. The flag should be folded in its customary manner.
2. It is important that the fire be fairly large and of sufficient intensity to ensure complete burning of the flag.
3. Place the flag on the fire.
4. The individual(s) can come to attention, salute the flag, recite the Pledge of Allegiance and have a brief period of silent reflection.
5. After the flag is completely consumed, the fire should then be safely extinguished and the ashes buried.
6. Please make sure you are conforming to local/state fire codes or ordinances.
Note: Please contact your local VFW Post if you'd like assistance or more information on proper flag disposal.
