"Watson is an outstanding playmaker at the college level and he does not need to improve in the passing game," Jeremiah said. "Jared Goff and Carson Wentz were both inferior as pocket passers in college. Watson has a similar skill set to Marcus Mariota, but Mariota is skinnier, slower-minded, weaker and less accurate."
I believe you forgot 1 stat that is a great comparison between the 4... Watson wins football games.

Jared Goff is not even in the same discussion as Deshaun. Every time I bet on Cal last year he'd throw multiple picks and never cover the spread. Not to mention never playing in a meaningful game.
Do these guys even watch film?

Why do I read these posts of these so called "analysts" spouting the usual drivel? While proclaiming the greatness of Mariota did he miss the whole 4001/1000 yard stat? Must have also missed the whole "only...thats The only (meaning Mariota didnt do it) player in NCAA FBS history.......and yet he proclaims Mariota the better player!? What a maroon!

Terrible analysis. Have you ever seen him throw the ball? One of the most accurate passers I've ever seen. His deep ball accuracy is simply unmatched by anyone, ever.

I'm not sure who Daniel Jeremiah is, but he is making assumptions based on two years where he was hurt a LOT of the first one, and without several of his weapons during the 2nd season. The one thing he never mentioned is the fact that DW wills his team to win and doesn't lose games. Wentz played in division II and Goff could barely lead his team to a bowl game. I believe knowing how to win and to get the most of out of those around you will set him apart from both Goff and Wentz.

DW4 passed for 4100 yards last season. The only reason he didn't go for 1,000 more in passing was because he had 1,000 yards rushing.

I wanted to be upset at this. I really was at first.
I suspect the comparison to Wentz and Goff is due to recent bias since he probably just watched all their tape. I don't agree, but okay.
The comparison to Mariota is apt and not as outlandish as first blush. Mariota is a bigger and certainly faster guy (4.5 40). I would suspect he is slightly stronger given his size and weight (not that strength is super important at the position).
The one that gets me is the accuracy claim, but it is hard to argue with Mariota's efficiency in college. He threw very few INTs (1 more in 3 years at Oregon than Watson had just last year). I would look at yards per attempt average but that's probably more misleading than looking just at INTs (which is a bit skewed for Watson given some poor effort at times at WR).
In the end, the comparison means nothing since Watson will get his shot to prove it on the field. Watson has a shot to win a natty and a Heisman and go #1 overall in the draft (Mariota can't claim that).

and not game film. The only knock on Watson is the number of INTs. If he was eligible for the draft he would have been the first QB taken this year. Bama's D is basically NFL talent and he shredded them.

Unfortunately I find it hard to believe Watson won't be the #1 pick next year. With no other real competition at QB it's going to take a team that really needs a LT or DE to not pick him.
