Doesn't SEC toughness vs. ACC meakness go back before Dabo?

Dec 18, 2012, 11:18 AM

Bowden said in a press conference in 2008 after the Bama game that he called Saban after the game to ask him what he saw in Clemson during preparation that allowed Bama to be so successful in that opening game in Atlanta. It was as if Bowden thought Saban had "out-schemed" him.

Maybe the physicalness of the SEC wasn't talked about so much by ESPN back then so Bowden was simply clueless as to the real problem.

So I don't think this lack of toughness is anything new that just happened under Dabo; those of you thinking this is a Dabo issue can stop with that.

On a side note, I think telling people in a press conference that you called an opposing coach during the season to ask for advice, when you are making $2 million a year, looks silly and is one of the things that lead to Bowden being forced out that season.

In that game, Clemson was surprised by the young talent on the Alabama offense. Julio Jones had a superb first game.

no..... 2003 UT game and all those games when we physically beat South Carolina. South Carolina was .500 in some cases better than that in SEC. The 2008 game against Alabama is not fair. Alabama would go on to lose just ONE SEC game in two years after game. they were a fantastic team.

Who did they lose that one game to?***

In MHO it started with Hatfield and has been here since.

Hatfield had a so-called finesse offense

I did not like Bowden and do not think there is any hope for dabo building a "physical" team

Hatfield ran the option and flex bone

Dec 18, 2012, 12:42 PM

it started when Bowden came in and said "we are going to throw it getting off the bus."

Hatfield ran a wishbone/option offense

IMHO it started with Tommy and Rich R's offense.

Maybe we lost our toughness to our high-powered offense?

I could see how our guys could lose their mean streak winning almost every game by 40.

..but not as far back as Clemson toughness and USuC weakness***

Nobody wants to say it but we lost our toughness

Dec 18, 2012, 5:56 PM

when we got rid of Danny Ford. It did carry on for a couple of years untill Danny's recruits were gone !! Hasn't ever been the same.
