Do you think an AD should be more of a...

Former Coach or Business type background?

I've heard Bobby Johnson's name thrown around and I have no idea why he'd make a good AD.

TDP had a business/law background and people were always questioning his ability as an AD.

Just curious as to what some opinions are.

My only opinion is that if Billy D is remotely considered, then I will have little faith in the direction of our athletic dept. I think we need a solid, experienced guy not from Clemson to remove any good ole boy type stuff.

Why anyone would consider someone not currently working as an AD is beyond me. I think they need to be a fundraiser first. Anyone who takes that job needs to be able to energize the fan base and get them to give to capital projects, Clemson has not had that in there last two AD's Bobby Robinson was the worst of the two.

You cannot expect a business man to be able to make the hiring and firing decisions that come up every so often as an AD, without an athletic background. Bill Gates is the smartest businessman on the planet, but he could never be trusted to hire a football or basketball coach. Sure, he could negotiate a contract like nobody else, but what difference would that make if its the wrong person? I believe an sports/athletic/COACHING backgorund is absolutely CRUCIAL for this reason. Without a coaching background to draw from, their choice may not be any better than yours or mine. And for those who restrict the field to current ADs somewhere else, why buy a Cadillac, when a Hyundai does the job for a lot less? A current AD will command a premium price. What you need is a big name, who is not currently an AD, that way you get the prestige, without the pricetag.

TDP was

a football coach for a time back in the day. I honestly have no idea who would be a good fit. My initial feelings will come after the introductory press conference.

Totally agree with this. My thoughts on TDP were this, and they've only improved marginally, bc he lucked out and Dabo is a star.

Lucked out?? TDP was familiar with Dabo's qualities which

would make him an excellent choice.

Yeah, he lucked out with Les Miles and Mike Gundy too.

Wise up Clemson... it would be foolish to hire someone as lucky as TDP in the future.
