Context is key.

Obama, July 13: There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That’s how we funded the GI Bill. That’s how we created the middle class. That’s how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover ###. That’s how we invented the Internet. That’s how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that’s the reason I’m running for President — because I still believe in that idea. You’re not on your own, we’re in this together.

I guess they are shockingly their own people with different views on things. All Dems aren't a monolith.

Remember when plagiarism forced him from the Presidential race?

1987. He was a scumbag then and he’s a scumbag now. 40yrs in politics. Doesn’t know what work is. Never held a real job, but somehow convinces his low-information followers that he understands and “connects” the working man. Gimme a friggin break. This is the right-hand man of a president that was gifted ZERO PERCENT interest rates by the Fed and still could post an annual 3.0% Econ growth rate.

Bringing out the classics today

Apr 29, 2019, 6:52 PM

I've seen references now to "57 states," "you didn't build that," and "first time proud of my country" today from you guys. Just need to throw in something about teleprompters and tan suits to complete the set.

Wrong. We live in the lower 50 states. There are 52 total.

WOT?

Apr 30, 2019, 10:06 AM

There are 52 playing cards, but only 50 states.

Did I miss some heavily veiled sarcasm here?

Old Joe might pull this nomination off if...

Apr 29, 2019, 11:10 PM

the a few of the left wing candidates hang in until the end. They split the socialist votes siphoning off a few from Bernie to hold him back just a little Joe might be nominated.

The problem everyone seems to miss is Joe's strength. As we discussed, 20% of the tweeters post 80% of the tweets. Folks think that because the most outspoken suck up all the political air that the dem party is gone off the deep end. That's not one of my mistakes nor is it Trump's.

I believe 80% of dems sit squarely in the window between barely left of center to half way to AOC. There's more political distance between AOC and that 80% than their is to those who lean slightly to the right.

Joe's problem is going to be trying to deal with the legacy of being O's sidekick. Obama was hostile to manufacturing, oil production, the coal industry and other areas of American work. Now Joe thinks he's going to smooth all that over, court and spark them and get their votes?

Did the coal jobs return in large numbers under Trump? If not, I don't think it matters. If they did, that could be an issue.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Trump ended some of the regulations on coal.

There are about 2000 more jobs in mining but more were added as support in the peripheral. Penn is enjoying a 20 yr low in unemployment. Employers are holding job fairs at prison.

Joe should have gone to the big cities instead of embarrassing himself.
