Deon Cain drop

I was thinking about how Deon Cain was pivotal in last years game and this one. Last year he caught the pass and had the long run that really changed the momentum and got our offense going. This year he had the same type of opportunity twice and dropped both.

I think the first down he dropped was a killer. Had we moved the ball a little and flipped the field who knows.

Easier to make plays when you are the 3rd or 4th option. This year without 3, 7, or 16, Cain and Renfrow became the focal points for the opposing defenses. In some games, KB2 did a good job of finding alternatives but Monday night he wasn't able to consistently.

the 50/50 ball on the sideline inside the 10 that the Bama defender made a great play on and knocked away. No way that was a drop.

The one that was most telling was when we're down 3-0 in the first quarter and have a chance to get out of the shadow of our own goal line with a third down catch and run that was easy if he concentrated and looked it. By dropping it and bringing up 4th down, we kicked back to them around mid-field and they scored their first TD, effectively winning the game as it turned out.
On the 50/50 ball, it was a tough get, but when he went up and grabbed it, I yelled "Now that's a Mike Williams catch!! .. but alas, it was not to be.
Both were huge opportunities to help the offense overcome miserable field position.
But, honestly, there's no way to blame any one player for the situation.
The inability to generate any push deep in our territory was a failure of the entire offense.
We should not have had to be depending entirely on Dion Cain to bail out the offense.
