Conference perspective from a Clemson family

May 24, 2012, 7:56 AM

1. When my grandfather went to Clemson, we were in the SIAC.
2. When my father played form Clemson, we were in the Southern Conference.
3. When I went to Clemson, we were in the ACC.
4. By the time my daughter graduates from Clemson, we most likely will be in an expanded Big-12.

My family history is a great example that throughout Its history, Clemson has changed athletic conferences when the necessity arose. Clemson orange runs through the blood of my family, so I and my family will support Clemson no matter what conference we are in. I only want our leaders to keep Clemson relevant as a football program on the national level. If that means we go to the Big-12, then I say kiss the Tarhole loving ACC goodbye!

SIAA not SIAC...good stuff though.

May 24, 2012, 8:41 AM

SIAC has always been a black college conference. Morehead. Spellman etc

so, if we join the big12ish, we can increase the size

May 24, 2012, 9:19 AM

of DV by 400%? that's how much it's grown since joining the acc.

this ain't your grandaddy's clemson.

nice post, understand it, but there's a lot more on the line than leaving the socon or a 'league' when football was a club sport.

One things going to change for your family

May 24, 2012, 9:32 AM

Travel---all the other past changes did not affect the travel of your family much. The Big 12 will drastically change things. I'm all for telling the ACC to kiss off and take our chances in the Big 12 if it's the right thing for Clemson in the long run. Also I'd like to travel to new places even if they're not at the top of everyones destination top spots. But don't kid ourselves, Clemson nation will not travel like we've been known for cause folks simply can't afford it. Be careful what you wish for, but I'm leaning for change if all the "rumors" are half way correct.

If we're in the Big 12 and we are winning you can bet your @$$ Clemson fans will be traveling. If we're winning in the big12 we're atleast top 15 if not higher. If undefeated, we're top 5.

we were top 5 being undefeated in the acc.

I would be more interested in travelling to UT ot OU

May 27, 2012, 6:09 PM [ in reply to One things going to change for your family ]

than any ACC team, except FSU. I've been to Austin on business and it's great. UT fans remind of Alabama fans with their smug arrogance, but they have earned it. I got that opinion drinking with a bunch of UT guys one night in Austin, so my experience may not be the norm. I would love to party in Austin after Whipping some Texas butt.
