The guys on Perfect Game on Sirius XM College Sports have predicted Ok St to win our regional. Brought up their pitching depth & our lack of pitching depth as the reason. Called us a team not built for being in the loser's bracket.
Hope we prove them wrong

unacceptable error rate...every team on every level makes errors, but a fielding percentage rate in the .960's is pretty bad. Poor fielding can make mediocre pitching look even worse......

Concerns me too, but...

We have managed to make it work so far. Obviously the fact we had 2 close games against Western Carolina w/ our midweek guys means we can't take lightly who we throw out on Friday. Granted, our 2 games against WCU came after the sweep at Miami and at the start of the midseason slump we had, we're a different team since then.
Think ML will stick with Barnes, Schmidt, & Eubanks as the 1st three up (figure Barnes & Eubanks he might switch around, think Schmidt would get the nod in a Game 2 winner's bracket game esp. if Ok St is the opponent). Could also see him deciding to give somebody like Crawford or Bostic a crack @ WCU and hope for the best, to save the 3 I mentioned earlier for later. Also think that if Krall doesn't have to work alot of innings or throw alot of pitches in relief appearances he could be an option for starter, especially if it came down to a deciding game 7 in the bracket.

Our pitching is not good or deep enough to take those chances. You have to throw Barnes in game 1 to get into the winners bracket. You don't go with your 3rd or 4th option in game 1 of the playoffs at any level.
The only other option would be Schmidt in game 1 and Barnes game 2. I could see that but still think ML will go the smart route and pitch Barnes Friday.

No way you pitch Barnes against western Carolina. You have to save him for OK st. I guarantee you we will not see Barnes against western.

You might be right, but he'd be foolish to throw anyone other than Barnes or Schmidt.

I'd go with Schmidt and then Barnes in game 2. You make some good points.

Obviously 1 of the main guys has to get the nod - sends the message we're not taking the game likely b/c we know WCU's not gonna. We throw Barnes, Schmidt, & Eubanks as normal, we don't have much margin for error. Hopefully we limit errors and have solid output at the plate to help the pitching staff out.

I think they're just talking out their butts. Do you realize how infinitesimal college baseball regional ratings are?

We won't be in the losers bracket when we win our first two games, so that point is moot.

Why would we want to be in the loser's bracket. We don't usually play there.
