Nice to get ride of Upton and reunite him with his brother, but I'm puzzled as to why we trade Kimbrel. Wow. Best closer in baseball could have gotten a lot back in a trade. Hart has freed up a ton of money though.

You don't get rid of BJ Upton without giving something else (Kimbrel) up

Why pay that and keep the best closer on a team where that position is more than likely going to be irrelevant ...I mean having a great closer is pointless on a rebuilding team

They picked up a ton of developmental guys and a 41st pick. Losing Kimbrel stings but with SD picking up the contracts I think they get like 46mil from what I've seen and that's been Atlanta whole plan this offseason.

to being non-competitive this season.
That being said this should have cleared up a ton of money for them to partake in a serious rebuilding job. I expect them to be back soon.

Well, I wont be wasting my time watching a rebuilding team this summer. Been second rate since Turner sold them.

If the Braves offseason plan was to mortgage their entire future, giftwrap a World Series for the Padres, and alienate their entire fanbase then they exceeded expectations. SMDH.

That was the plan this offseason. The only thing that surprised me is how close to opening day it happened. They've been saying how much they needed to free up money and they just did. Don't expect a great team in Atlanta for a couple years. Then again, this team could surprise everyone but I doubt it.

Nationals, Dodgers, and Pirates are all better teams in the National League alone.

CBS reporting that Braves will designate Quentin for assignment in hopes that an AL team will pick him up. Braves had to pick up salaries for both Quentin and Maybin as well who have both under achieved the last couple of years.
This team is going to be tough to watch the next 2 years.

It was worth it to get rid of one of the worst contracts in baseball history.

Hate to lose Kimbrell, but this trade actually makes them competitive this year. Get 2 productive outfielders for price of upton and pads #1 pitching prospect, last year's 1st round pick (CF), and another 1st round pick this year. Hard to turn that down. Plus they free up cash.

Quintin is being designated. Maybin is just okay

Their only hope of being competitive this year is if their rotation (which is still good) pitches out of their minds all year and Freeman wins a triple crown.

Here is what I see is playing out in Atlanta. After listening to the President John Hart as why he traded Kimbrel and in the same breath he mentioned building the new ball park. Payroll cuts means more money going into the new stadium. I see why trading Upton makes sense because that will save 53 million dollars. On trading Kimbrel makes sense also. With the way Hart is getting rid of the good players Atlanta won't be in any close games this year, much less having he lead. So Kimbrel will only get about two or three saves opportunities, I bet Kimbrel is glad that he is leaving.

and Maybin too, for that matter. Quentin is a DL commando....and a mercurial personality too. Have fun with that, Braves fans.

A closer is only beneficial ....

if the team has a lead going into the 9th inning. This isn't likely going to be an issue for the Braves too often during the 2015 season.
