Not even close. Fans hated Hatfield day 1 and the coots think boom is the savior. Also Hatfield had talent when he got here which allowed him to have some good seasons until all Danny's players were gone. Not many similarities.

I'm no fan of Hatfield but even he had previous

success as a head coach at Arkansas. boom has never been a successful head coach anywhere.

Was a good person. Muschump is a turd. Mark it down...he will go out in shame.

Not even close. Although I will never understand Hatfield, and absolutely hated his offense with the run for two downs, then throw on third, and the disastrous system he had of calling plays from the sideline late(giving the quarterback no time to check off at the line of scrimmage) he was one of the nicest gentlemen to ever coach a college football game. Still he did waste three of the most talented teams ever at Clemson with National Championship level talent in 1990 and 91(although he finished #9 and 18# in the polls, both those teams should have been Top 5), and in 1992 with Top 10 talent, he finished 5-6 and lost his team completely for the last two games against unranked Maryland and South Carolina after blowing out a ranked UNC. Then, the next year, he goes 8-3 with a FAR less talented team!

Hatfields downfall was hiring Dickerson to coach the DB's.

I agree although I disagree with two things. One, Dickerson was actually listed as defensive co-ordinator and two, using the word coach. Everyone knew he spent all week in his office sending out resumes for Head coaching jobs or going on interviews and left the coaching to his assistants, and just would confuse everyone when he showed up at game time and tried to tell people what to do when he hadn't prepared and didn't really know what the other coaches had set as a gameplan. More than once I watched as he tried to read up on what he had missed on the sideline during the game from my seats. He was a disaster and Hatfield hired him knowing that he was applying for jobs, just didn't realize that was how he was going to spend most of his time at Clemson.

I never cared how nice Hatfield was. He sucked. Awful.

Aug 7, 2016, 1:13 PM

I hope the Coots have the same misery ahead of them that I felt with Hatfield.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

nearly opposite - Danny left it loaded, Spur did not

Aug 7, 2016, 8:12 AM

Hatfield was a devout man who banned cursing on the practice fields; I don't think Muschamp has that rule.

Didn't Hatfield switch over to the wishbone midway during one season ?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

switched to wishbone in 93 season

Aug 7, 2016, 3:56 PM

We got blown on on road 57-0 to FSU and Charlie Ward. Patrick Sapp was our QB and he was terrible.

They pulled Dexter Mcleon out of secondary and ran the wishbone rest of that season. Finished 5-6. Good times.

That clown will never have Hatfield's level of success...

Aug 7, 2016, 5:51 PM

certainly not with the talent he inherited from Slurrier.
