How come ND seemed to shutdown NC State and hold

them to almost a touchdown most of their game, yet they barely pass the ball. I assumed that State had been scheming us for almost a year, and our game was in Raleigh, however I was curious to see what the consensus was.
I also didn't really see that their previous game on the road, so I really don't know the details, other than they got held to around 50 yards rushing.

Couple things: ND was playing at home NCstate lost to Clemson last year and Doeren is a DB that hates us and tried/tries to hurt our best players
I watched to CFP coaches commentary and he was one of the coaches - totally a jerk/ who obviously hates Dabo

I think the game just got away from NC State early in the 2nd half. The game was 21-14 at halftime, and NC State threw a pick 6 on the first drive of the 3rd after moving the ball to the ND 42. NC State then drove down to the ND 6 on the next drive, but turned the ball over on downs after going for it on 4th and 1. NC State went 3 and out on their next drive, and ND then got a 77 yard touchdown after that to make it 35-14. At that point NC State was obviously off of whatever their gameplan was. I think it's sometimes easy to forget how easily a play or two even early in a game can completely change the outlook of a game.

up somethings. However there were points in this game where it looked like it might get away from us. We were fortunate our offense was still going at times. I know times in the last few seasons, when our offense stalls that things don't go so well for us.

When we play well on offense we are not fortunate. We are prepared. Good things are not luck. Equally when we play bad for example on defense it’s not because we can’t coach. Sometimes the other team tries as well. There are many ways to win and many ways to lose. It will not always be the same every game.

Keep in mind we were thin at DB and ACC refs always allow state to hold our DL...

So don't get to caught up in comparisons. ND did give up 37 points to Wake today

They play pretty well in the trenches. I can't get over how badly they beat USC.

Well, holding or not penalties seem to even out. Wouldn’t surprise me if BV didn’t come out and say we were out of position on some big plays but we are banged up and really thin at db.
Plus for most of the ND game, 3 of States dL’s were out most of the game due to injuries.
