Ranking the SEC Football Programs: The Decade Ahead

Dec 19, 2012, 9:46 PM

11. South Carolina, Columbia Campus - This ranking may come as a shock, but anyone that has followed the conference for a long time should be able to see the merit in it as it is explained. Cocky had long been the cellar-dweller in the SEC prior to a few happy moments under Lou Holtz and the arrival of Steve Spurrier. I don’t see Steve staying around for another decade to keep up what he has built, which means without one of the premiere offensive minds in the history of the game that the ##### will slide back down to the bottom of the conference. The facilities are not even close to adequate to continue to achieve what they have been and new AD Ray Tanner will be learning on the job, which doesn’t bode well for sustained success. Reality will be coming soon to reacquaint itself with the #####.

The coots had enough sense to hire a football coach. Don't you think they will find someone else when SS leaves. With their program doing well, getting a good, qualified replacement for SS shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, reality will probably be visiting Clemson on Dec. 31. Letting Danny leave ranks as one of the dumbest coaching moves in college football. I'm not sure we'll ever play at that level again.

have to agree with the last sentence***

It has been 14 years since there was a coach at South Carolina other than Lou Holtz or Steve Spurrier.

I think their program is turned around for the foreseeable future even if Spurrier leaves.

Assuming Spurrier stays for a few more years, they will be nearing two decades since they've been without Holtz or Spurrier.

There is no reason to believe they will turn into a 0-11 team after Spurrier leaves like they were in 1998.

Holtz' last two seasons were 5-7 and 6-5…..

I don't see what that has to do with what Steve Spurrier has done the past 4 years.

I think you need to rethink this. It is wishful thinking at best. They are making the kind of money and Spurrier has turned it into a very attractive program. I wish it were true but I am a realist on this one.

Telling thing in that assessment was about their facilities

Dec 19, 2012, 10:21 PM

the guy who wrote the blog knows how terrible their facilities are, yet there are so many on TNet that claim they have surpassed us in facilities.

but we all understand money. The fact is, the coots are bringing in a pile more than we are. It shows. We need to join the SEC, period. I've been saying it for years now. The disparity will only grow.
