Quick wrestling note

I've seen the petition about wrestling coming back to Clemson, and I reached to a spokesperson who said that the athletic department has seen the petition and loves the fans' passion, but to add a sport at this time would mean dropping one of the current men's sports or adding yet another women's sports to offset the addition of wrestling. Because of that, despite the petition, there are no plans to add another sport, including wrestling. The school just added softball and is happy with the current sports layout. Doesn't mean it won't happen years down the road, but for now, it's a non-starter.

Exempt football scholarships because there is no women’s sport equivalent.
That would fix it instantly because that is the root of the “problem” of imbalance.

Too simply I guess.
No women’s equivalent to football and it’s often the money maker for the whole athletic department.
Every other sport could be balanced then.

It’s a shame it may not come back. My oldest son recently wrestled for OKLAHOMA until knee injuries killed his passion. It’s a great sport but the team was out of control off the mat in my days at Clemson (late 80s)and that was a factor I believe in killing it.

Over the last several years, 3 Women’s Sports were added

And 2 Men’s teams were dropped ( Swimming & Diving (I believe). The Women now have: 1) Golf 2) Rowing and 3) Softball.
