Play by play is terrible. Can't' tell what's happening. I miss Munson and Mahoney now. Never thought I would say that.

To be fair , he is doing the ball game by himself. No help = less help with calls and no time to really discuss what just happened. Not to mention he is talking to himself all game.
He is at least doing ok. Not thAT bad

I did it filling in for him when he'd have conflicts with Clemson games. I didn't hear this guy last night, so I don't know how he did, but I can tell you it's not that difficult. But you have to have intimate knowledge of the game, and the team, to fill the time between pitches. Plus, their are plenty of things you can find to talk about regarding the crowd, etc. You have to be able to "tell a story" between pitches

experience. He probably had to do his own engineering, watch and listen for cues from the network, keep a score book, keep up with changes in the lineups and several other things. People should give the kid a break.
You learned a lot of things from one of the best.

the like. Like I said, I didn't hear it. Baseball is such a unique sport to call. It allows for genuine story telling and player information due to it's pace. Football actually has more time to kill in between plays, and basketball is constant action. Baseball requires a sort of "romantic" view of the game. Very few on any level now have the ability to truly talk about pitches with real knowledge, players with real interest and fans with a view for the absurd and interesting. Most today were not groomed on radio, and that makes a huge difference
