Punishment for UNC Infractions

Dec 15, 2014, 11:15 AM

As a casual observer of this situation, it appears that Swofford and UNC are going to skate again from the most egregious infractions of the last 20 years. To not punish all sports involved with this situation is sending a message that there is nothing that they can't get away with. I am not advocating the "death penalty", the loss of scholarships, a monetary fine given to the conference of the size of the Penn State situation. While they are not the same, UNC has always been given preferential treatment and the time to end that is now. Swofford needs to go as he is too close to UNC.

this goes beyond the ncaa. the accreditation

Board sHould step him.
The ncaa has said they have no jurisdiction on this because they only decide on eligibility.

This is bs though because all athletes are required to maintain academic requirements to stay eligible.

The truth is...

it's so horrible nobody knows how to handle it, UNC will continue the fraud without restriction or remorse and those with the power to administer remedy will continue dodging the real issue.

Which is a total cop-out by the NCAA....

How often does the NCAA make determinations about a kids high school transcript, and area where they actually have aboslutely ZERO jusisdtction, yet they bury their heads in the sand over issue at UNC.

What people don't seem to understand is that this was settled a few years ago you can't go back and say we now think we let you off easy we are giving u more punishment

Nope

The NCAA even said so. They were punished for Marvin Austin, Greg Little, etc. receiving improper benefits, agents interactions with players, and during that investigation a couple incidences of academic fraud surfaced and those players were punished individually.

This uncovered a system of fraud to keep athletes eligible. There are administrators and coaches still heavily involved with UNC athletics that were proven guilty. A severe punishment is warranted.

Sorry Mr. Swofford but....

Dec 15, 2014, 2:06 PM [ in reply to Re: Punishment for UNC Infractions ]

that is entirely inaccurate.

The sanctions originally leveled by the NCAA were related to impermissible benefits.

The ranpant and deliberate academic fraud issues go so far beyond the scope of the original investigation, it's rediculous.
