Should the Supreme Court base any of its decisions

Nov 6, 2019, 8:45 AM

on the decisions of lesser courts? Or should they independantly analyze the facts of a case and make a decision based on their own interpretation of the law?

Should the College Football Playoff committee base any of its rankings on the rankings of lesser polls? Or should they independantly analyze the facts of the teams and matchups and make a decision based on their own interpretation of the data?

Not sure why they even mention one team beating another ranked team. Those rankings are made by opinions of people with bias and insufficient motivation to adequately research, and are affected by a preseason ranking with zero regard to merit on the field.

Polls influence each other

That is always the case. This is why by the end of the season most are in agreement with each other. The CFP poll has the highest weight influencing, but is released way to late and is influenced heavily in the early stages by the AP and Coaches poll which have been out a great deal longer. With the AP carrying more weight than the Coaches poll, in my opinion. The only way to get rid of some of the bias would be to release all polls at the same time. With CFP committee meeting prior to the season and releasing a pre-season poll like the rest, and maintaining that poll up until the CFP Games. This is the only way to avoid outside polls influencing the CFP poll, when the others have been in existence since before the season started. It is human nature to be lazy and rely on others information and perception. Herd mentality and group think are a real thing.

rulings of the lower courts and determine if they agree with them. I understand your argument, but not really apples to apples
